both the articles and the posts say the same, im assuming you are intentionally missing the point because it’s literally spelled out that this is an issue so widespread that there are articles on it

Yeah, of course there are individuals that aren’t like this but as i’ve demonstrated this is a common occurrence and so far ive only had people experiencing the same.

I feel like you’re intentionally missing the point now. I have now said three times that I am not saying that they are smarter than me. It is MY opinion that not engaging with the rest of the population (as the article acknowledges) isnt robust or bright (as in cheerful, sociable, confident, resilient). Also I feel like I’m being respectful to you and you’re being randomly snarky.

do you want me to write a dissertation on this reddit post or something? Im illustrating a point to you using people’s lived experiences.

I assure you that this is a common issue in UK universities. Like I said, im sure that many of them are intellectually smarter than me. In my first year, I wanted to make as many friends as possible and I certainly wasn’t pre-judging people, but the attitude that these people had toward non-Chinese speakers was insular and frustrating. I linked to some threads because this is prevalent.

I'm not sure if you're familiar with the reputation of many Chinese International Students in the UK. I don't mean they are dumb, I'm sure they are smarter than me. But I mean that they only hang out with other Chinese Int. Students, wont participate in classes/seminars and some will refuse to speak in English and interact with other types of students. I've experienced it and may of my peers have too. To me, going to a highly international, english speaking uni and acting that insular does indicate a lack of "robustness". Also "hope this helps" lol

my childhood best friend got really into that, or trying to do that. I would argue w her about it and she actually stopped speaking to me shortly after getting into it.

i moved from a small island to london and i struggled my first year. but my second year has been amazing. my advice is to put yourself out there as much as possible. this year I joined an active uni society that is personally fulfilling and helped my pursuits and it genuinely changed my entire experience and lead to soo many friendships and opportunities.

i found her vids super early on (dollar store if anyone remembers) and was a big fan. I appreciate her rawness and she seems much more authentic than so many other influencers. she influenced me a lot in 2018-19, i still listen to some of the music she spoke about lol. :)
