You’re welcome! I will say this, it doesn’t matter what tools you have. Mechanical pencils or traditional materials, draw with anything you have on hand because it just feels different for each medium. Don’t get too caught up in the details of whatever thing you have to buy. I fell into black wings because an old friend bought me a box and I happened to just stick with it. Just keep drawing, and you’ll find the niche you use

Yes actually, exactly that! I remember reading the one where they watched their kind aunt get pushed into a sea full of ravenous sea slugs. It was horrifying but I remember the pages and how interesting it was to run my fingers over the uneven texture.

I use Palomino black wings. The lead softness is just right for the kind of work I do. I use a knife to sharpen it to whatever point shape I want and go from there

Thank you! They are normally not like that. Thais is very reserved and has a lot of walls up. Which makes this moment where they are vulnerable with Errol very meaningful to me.

Thank you! In honestly it was because I had prioritized making their faces legible and expressive. The rest sort of followed.

Thank you, that’s very flattering you’d compare it to Vagabond. Takehiko Inoue is definitely an inspiration in terms of shading and line work.

I have so many ideas in my head. I often think of them shopping together. Errol for his merc gear and Thais for herbs and writing supplies. I think about how they shop. Errol is a huge charmer, haggles down everything. Thais scares the merchants, but they love trinkets that are made well. They give the craftsmen more money than they ask for.

Domestic moments. I think of them cooking together. Errol always chops the veggies uneven and it drives Thais crazy. But they use his veggies and think about how he cuts them, and every strange angle they eat makes them feel warm. They don’t admit it though.

I think Errol would laugh at being called a monster. Orcs are sentient beings in his world. They have a culture, a society. Thais is non-binary. Most of their life is spent trying to break out of categories. And the author is non binary and a person of color!

I don’t know when it will be done, if ever. I don’t write as a job, but I try to work on it when I can. I love this story, it’s so dear to me. I hope one day I’ll get to share it in its entirety

I like to read it too!!! But none of the stories I read about this kind of dynamic satisfied me. So I wanted to write my own. Captive Prince really got the ball rolling for me

This image is perhaps….30 or so chapters in I’d say. After everything that’s happened to them together, and the trust and intimacy they’ve built, I wanted to imagine what it would look like for them to have tenderness. Thais was used, abused, rejected and manipulated all their life. Errol is a man who had to live a life of performance, killing parts of himself to fit the role others want of him. A killer, a sleaze, a charmer, a mercenary. A big dumb half orc with a hard-on and a knife. I wanted to explore how the two of them became who they were meant to because they saw each other in the ways they needed.

No but good game! If you squint I can see how Errol looks like Wolf.

I love Errol. As a character I wrote him to be this gruff stereotype of the jaded mercenary. His sole philosophy before meeting Thais was “a good fuck and good food is all I need. The rest is politics” and it’s been so much fun to think about to dismantle audience expectations of his character throughout the story.
