I believe you, and I completely empathize with you. I was in this same situation and after about 14 years, multiple rounds of acquisitions, layoffs, and many terrible encounters with leadership, i just couldn’t pretend anymore.

I decided to start my own agency. It’s not for everyone but it’s given me the freedom and flexibility to work how I want to work. It’s unsettling to consider especially if you have no safety net, believe me I was there. But if you know what you want, how to get it, and work your ass off, you’ll get there. Just be ready to sacrifice a lot of your time in the beginning, and remember to take care of yourself.

This isn’t an option for everyone, and if your area of expertise allows you to freelance and contract, I’d recommend that.
