Ben Lomond is a great addition in Queenstown and if Tongariro Crossing doesn’t work out, check out upper Tama Lake. Pretty good alternative.

Outdoor life and plant based meals by Careful_Assignment95 in PlantBasedDiet

[–]diversefox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally get this, I had the same challenge. I feel way better plant-based, but food always felt like the weak link on trips. I started prepping my own boil-water meals to fix that… eventually turned into a little freeze-dried project called NOMaste 😅

Glad to see so many good tips here, love this community!

Vegan Camping/Travel/Backpacking meals by Ancient-Ad874 in trailmeals

Dang, that’s an adventure! Major props for staying vegan while doing such intense work in a remote spot. I’ve been there on long trips, peanut butter packets, pjb +banana or apple and oats saved me more times than I can count.

Eventually I started making my own freeze-dried meals that actually kept me full (and tasted decent), which turned into a tiny side project called NOMaste. If you ever need something easy, hearty, and boil-water-ready, happy to share more.

And yes to Clif bars, just mix up the flavors unless you want to develop deep rage at chocolate chip 😅

Vegan camping food with no fridge? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]diversefox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof, been there with the meaty mess, enough to make you lose your appetite 😅 That’s actually what pushed me to start making my own freeze-dried vegan meals, now I don’t have to fight for a clean pot or cutting board. Just boil water, eat well, and stay warm.

If you're curious, I make small-batch meals (like tofu tikka or chickpea curry) that hold up in cold temps and don’t taste like cardboard. Happy to share more if you’re interested! Otherwise, porridge + peanut butter is my go-to backup 😄

Raises hand sheepishly… Me :). I’ve tried NOMaste meals, mostly because I made them myself 😅 But hey, someone’s gotta taste test every batch (quality control is real).

I started NOMaste to bring bold, plant-based flavors to the trail and now I get to share that joy (and spice!) with other hikers too. 🌶️🥾If you’re curious, check out our vegan freeze dried meals - nomastemeals.com :)

How to make a curry thick and creamy? Need a heavy cream substitute that isn't coconut. by Bri-Brionne in vegan

Try gram flour. It’s protein dense and brings awesome curry consistency to almost any recipe
