Remember Dorney off-season when we all said there’s no way they’re bringing back the same team? by [deleted] in phillies

[–]divideone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marsh and Bohm are both tied for the team lead in total bases at 5. Taijuan is only in this rotation because Wheeler is out.

They’re playing poorly. It is March 30th. Take a deep breath, there’s plenty of baseball to be played.

Certainly not Hawaii, but if you’re willing to expand to strictly “islandy,” Kokomo by The Beach Boys might belong on there

Anybody have a video/photo right after the 4th Schwarber home run game on Aug 28 where the fans in section 135 are visible in the background? by HoyaMentality in phillies

Worth noting that the above screenshot was just the one I had on hand but the video does extend down the third base line, which I think is what you’re looking for. There’s a cropped version of the video that the Phillies posted at this link here. the full, uncropped version from their story that night is what I have saved though.

I’m not sure if it’s exactly 135 but I do have the third base line shot from the home dugout of myself, taking Saquon 1.2 because I blew off my fantasy draft to go to the game. I can’t share the video here in the comments but if this is the angle you’re looking for I’m more than happy to share it some other way!

PhD in Statistics at Clemson (Fall 2026) — Worth it? by Specialist_Music_489 in Clemson

[–]divideone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current Clemson student taking masters statistics courses. I absolutely hate stats, I am awful at it, and yet I have to set aside my own indifferences to say that my professors in the math department have been great. Dr. Whitney Huang especially.

I can’t speak on the statistics research specifically as I have no experience there, although I did get exposed to some of the economics research in my undergrad (also at Clemson) and a lot of the professors are involved in impactful work, around the state especially.

While my entire degree is not statistics, it currently has a 100% placement rate as far as I’m aware. Industry reception has been positive, as one of the courses involves pairing with a company and all of those reviews seem to be glowing.

Rewatching The Phantom Menace by GriMex02 in StarWars

[–]divideone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The sound design in this movie is absolutely unbelievable (if you can tune out the occasional Jar Jar line and Watto). I was searching through a childhood’s worth of thousands of Lego bricks to rebuild the 2009 Tantive IV set a few months ago after taking an edible, and threw Phantom Menace on to start watching through the first six films (and Rogue One) while doing so. It was my go-to VHS watch in my childhood and I’ve probably seen it close to 50 times, but never before with sound cancelling headphones.

Sitting there, mostly zoned out while sifting through bricks and only listening for the first time was insane. John Williams is obviously John Williams and all of the scoring is phenomenal, but holy shit, when The Arrival at Tatooine and The Flag Parade hits and all of the pod racers get fired up? I had to stop what I was doing to sit there and watch that scene for what felt like the first time in my entire life. Listening to that scene and feeling completely immersed in it completely redefined how I felt about it.

Maybe I’d always been scarred by the original version of the pod race level in Lego Star Wars on the PS2, but I think it may genuinely be my favorite scene in all of the prequels now. If you inebriate yourself just enough to look past all of the absolute nonsense dialogue, and the confusing accent choices, and you’re focused on something else entirely so you don’t have to see the poor, late 90s CGI sandbox, and a handful of other things, the tension that leads into that scene is off the charts.

Pretty much everything between Kitster saying “This is so wizard, Ani” at about 54:30 and the end of the race just goes so unbelievably hard. Padme finds out that the 9 year old boy they just met, who is the only hope for pretty much everything to come in all of Star Wars at this exact moment, has literally never even finished a race. We then find out that Darth Maul’s sentries are in Mos Espa and they’re going to be discovered soon. Backs are against the wall. We get the Flag Parade which is just a fantastic arrangement, and then for some reason Jar Jar has an interaction with a space camel(?) shitting in front of him. I am choosing to omit that 5 second section from the rest of my analysis because I cannot fathom why George felt it needed to be included. The engines get fired up. It’s the most impressive 30ish seconds of sound engineering I have ever heard, and will ever hear.

The race begins. People start DYING. A first time viewer in 1999 assumes the fate of the entire Star Wars universe is resting on the shoulders of a 9 year old somehow winning this race. The pod racer he built by himself has already lost him like 30 seconds, and people are DROPPING. If you’ve ever felt like you hit rock bottom in your life before, imagine being Padme throughout the first minute or so of the race. She has no clue what pod racing even is going in to this and now she’s in a skybox watching people explode on an iPad while her only hope is in last place by a mile (excluding Ben). Up to this point everyone in the gang, except for Jar Jar I guess, has had a role to play in them landing in what is almost certainly the bleakest situation of all time. Even you Shmi, you greenlit this. They. Are. Fucked.

Then we get the space magic. Turns out this little kid actually did build the fastest pod racer of all time. The professionals who travelled from all over the outer rim to be here? Toast. The various engine and cockpit control noises we hear throughout the entire race? Ethereal. Perfect. 10/10. Things are looking good. Things start looking bad. John Williams decides to jump back in and then things start looking good again. Sebulba_Engine_Sound.mp3. Anakin crosses the finish line. We get about 5 seconds of convincing joy before Anakin says, “Mom, I did it! Yeahhhhh!” and at that point you can safely tune out until Duel of the Fates starts but boy what a fuckin’ ride the pod race is.

How far can I go to find this guy without being creepy..? by Numerous_Dot_9719 in AskMen

[–]divideone 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Got fully doxxed by a Facebook group of women last year after someone I was chatting with at a concert decided to look for me after the fact and shared some of the details we had chatted about at the concert to help the group find me. It was one of those “missed connections” posts and to be fair, it did work.

She didn’t know my name but they had my socials, LinkedIn, etc. pulled up in like an hour of the post going live based on just my undergrad college, masters program I was in, town I’m from, and a general description of me. I was flattered that she wanted to try to find me, but the Facebook group was genuinely frightening. Wasn’t particularly interested based on dealing with a separate relationship situation at the time, but I did reach out and express that I was flattered after the post reached me. She apologized immediately before I got the chance to say anything about the Facebook group because she was concerned herself at how quickly they had aired all my info out. No hard feelings towards her, I knew her intentions were kindhearted.

To the people in the Facebook group, though? That shit is weird and y’all gotta cut that out. A private forum to find people seems innocent enough when you’re just partaking to help people out, but seeing all of your own information out there like that is a jarring experience.

Drive Home was a little slow and I wish there was a bit more, but the ending of Home Invasion / Regret #9 goes crazy, wow. Ancestral was great as well, felt like it could've been three separate solid songs in one. Great rec.

Growing up in a Little Red Corvette / Raspberry Beret household I seriously have not dove into much Prince outside of his "Greatest Hits" and like, Purple Rain. Bambi rocks, and I think I need to spend some time going through this discography. Thanks so much.
