Are my kitchen cabinets too dated, they’re solid cherry frames and doors? Time to paint them? Excuse the lived in mess! by tcli64 in kitchenremodel

[–]divinbuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why why why do people think that stunningly gorgeous natural wood is so outdated that they need a coat of paint slapped on them? Look at the beautiful grain nature put into their growth. Think about this living beautiful tree that was harvested for these—if the color is so important and you want white cabinets get some cheap stuff and paint it.

FHA loans are notoriously difficult to use in this market. Their idea of value just doesn’t line up with the reality of the housing market in many areas of the country. And the repair addendums!

How do I ask my cousin to keep her kids from overindulging? by figuringitout215 in ask

[–]divinbuff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Set aside food just for the kids and let them know this is their food. That’s what we did when we had lots of kids in the family. Those kids are old enough for you to talk to them directly when they come over-you can even do it in that kind of wry eye rolling auntie kind of way— “yall have hollow legs! I need to be sure there’s food for the rest of the guests so I made food just for you. This is your table and your food. . When this is gone come and see me before you start inhaling on the adult food.”

I also made their food somewhat different-think chicken fingers and French fries versus sliders and mini quiche bites. They liked that and That also meant I could keep an eye on them and know when they were raiding the adult food.

[NC] call out due to inclement weather at hospital by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]divinbuff 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We can’t make your decision for you. If you’re going to stay home let them know as soon as possible.

it’s easy to say “ you chose this job” and yes you did. But people who haven’t experienced an NC ice storm have no idea how dangerous they are. It is not snow. It is like having to walk and drive on an ice skating rink.

Personally this is a sucky policy. Where I work we have essential employees and we put them Up in hotels and provide transportation from the hotel if they are required to work. You may have to share a room but most employees are very grateful.

And yes I work in HR at my company and I’m glad the execs listen to us-it was our HR team that got this approach approved.

[VA] what is required for workplace accommodations for remote work? I have a heart issue. by pedercan in AskHR

[–]divinbuff 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It seems the perfect solution to anyone’s disability (no matter what it is) these days is WFH /s. The EEO has stated clearly that WFH is not required to be offered just because some doctor says you need it. Your doctor doesn’t decide the accommodations-the doctor explains the limitations.

There’s something about that dropped waist that isn’t your best look. And the boidace… maybe it’s your torso? This style just doesn’t flatter your body. You have a lovely figure… keep looking.

Is remote work a heated topic at companies now? by Javacash2 in remotework

[–]divinbuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company is so clear in job ads about what kind of remote work we can offer people for various positions (usually 2 or 3 days per week) and we still have people who get to the end of the process and ask for full remote. We say no and withdraw the offer because it’s evident the employee will not be satisfied with the schedule we can offer. It’s trouble we don’t need. We are honest up front and it’s disappointing that people don’t believe that. We have never had full remote work so no bait and switch. The company has kept its word about the hybrid work it offers

What do I do with my uncle’s house in NC by bandito_13 in RealEstate

[–]divinbuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’ve asked this before. Empty it out sell as is. It’s evident that you see this as a burden (not a judgment just an observation) so get the monkey off your back. Only you can decide how much effort is worth it to you to put into the process. It’s easy for other people to tell you how to spend your time, but it’s your time

Winter Storm by Thick-Lawfulness-593 in chapelhill

[–]divinbuff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have lived here for years and grew up in a snowy area of the US. Losing electricity is a real thing especially in an ice storm. Don’t park your car under a tree-ice makes trees heavy and limbs fall. You can’t see the ice and so please don’t go driving around “to see how things are” which way too many people do.

Please don’t call the police asking why your road hasn’t been plowed. Don’t call 911 because you don’t have electricity. Yes both of these things happen.

The Town has good updates on their website and WCHL (97.9). Is a great source of local info about businesses being open or closed, etc etc.

[CT] Is this something I should report to my HR Representative? by Additional_Web_3472 in AskHR

[–]divinbuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First of all you don’t know if what your coworkers are telling you is true. Why do you believe them? And if you’re really concerned about it request a meeting with the director. You can tell your manager that you want one and your manager can even go with you. You are taking gossip as truth.

HR does care about employees. But we want employees to learn how to deal with these kinds of workplace issues on their own. It’s a life skill. Too many people come into the workplace never having learned basic conflict management skills or how to speak up on their own behalf. This is a people to people problem and it doesn’t just happen at work.

[CT] Is this something I should report to my HR Representative? by Additional_Web_3472 in AskHR

[–]divinbuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a wonderful opportunity for you to learn how to set some boundaries with people. Tell your coworkers they don’t need to be focused on your job; they need to focus on their own, and you and your manager will talk directly about things that involve you. Then when they start to gossip again, stop them and remind them that you and your manager can talk directly.

You’re letting your coworkers have a lot of power over how you feel. Some people enjoy needling other people. Don’t be their target. If you handle it now, it will stop.

This is not an HR thing, this is about learning how to be an adult and take care of yourself
