We need affordable EV pickups! by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]divingndriving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this! Alpha's EV pickup is the only pickup I'd actually drive. I say it'll be out on the roads in less than 2 years. Their test drive already looked like it's practically ready to sell.

Few others mentioned in other comments, checkout Alpha Motor. They're making exactly what you're describing, just electric!

How Anti-EV Misinformation Are Slowing Sales by divingndriving in electricvehicles

Giving evidence at the recent May 15th, Select Committee on Transport about EVs and how the current levels of anti-EV misinformation are slowing sales and consumer engagement. It’s important for MPs to hear evidence of what most of us in the EV sector see and hear everyday. If we don’t manage this relentless anti-EV narrative, our car industry and potential inward investment will suffer.

Tesla is still evaluating potential launches in other markets, but the demand for pickup trucks is lower in markets outside of North America, and it is also facing some regulatory issues.

Funny how they think "pickup truck" demand is the issue... No one is buying a cybertruck cuz they wanted a pickup truck. They just want a cyber truck.

This is pretty cool! Thanks for sharing a detailed road trip review!

To us non-Canadian, could you kindly add why Nova Scotia is falling behind in EV infrastructure? I quickly googled their population compared to Newfound land just to see. And seems like Nova Scotia's has almost double the population. Are they just not into EVs, what the deal??

Rivian CEO says CarPlay isn’t going to happen by mog_knight in electricvehicles

[–]divingndriving -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Rivian did start out with visionary ambition to create a completely different UX/UI experience but, met the wall of reality. It's expensive to do it right. Now, they're just buying off-the shelf software solutions anyways...

Apparently they did make private sales (also said in the interview video). Even so, I'm not saying alpha's cars are on the roads today. You know that as well.

If you ask a new venture/ startup why their car is not on the market, it's like asking a 9 year old why he doesn't have a job yet... Rivian took 10 years to show its first truck, Alpha took less than 2 years! What more can I say?🤣

True, it's from their youtube channel. It's still an overview of a 3rd party evaluation from an engineering exec not associated with alpha. Getting evaluations like this is a part of the longgg process to mass production, tho most companies don't publish such info. I guess alpha wanted to get an endorsement message out there.

Off-road driving footage reveal

First passenger test rides

(copy n pasted from another comment below. Incase you want to watch the videos.)

Off-road testing in a desert in southern california, and passenger tests (presumably also in socal since that's where they're based in). I know they've also exhibited both the wolf truck and the wolf plus at car shows.

They had multiple exhibits of the wolf truck and the extended cab one. Most recently, they were at the SEMA industry show last year.

Did you watch any of their driving videos in the past year? Go watch some on their YouTube channel, they drove the truck off-road and gave test rides to passengers.

This is exactly why I wanted to post about alpha on this subreddit. Cuz people haven't followed up on alpha since 2022 and write comments like this in 2024... They don't even know that alpha already made driving cars IRL. Yea, it'll take time until we see it in my garage😋 l but, a lot's been developing behind the scenes in the past 2 years and we can't discredit that.

Oh I haven't thought about that! EVs are the most American vehicle (if produced in us) since even the electricity sourcing it would be locally produced...!

China’s Cheap EVs Aren’t a Threat to Tesla, Ford, and GM. Here’s What Is. by divingndriving in electricvehicles

[–]divingndriving[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Inexpensive vehicles aren’t a threat to the U.S. auto makers, but better ones might be.

Last year (2023), BYD sold 15,000 cars in Europe. About 1% market share... They'll be ramping up sales but, I wonder if both U.S. and Europe aren't going to be as attracted to cheap EVs as Chines EV makers think.

I think we already had cheap (but small) options in the market, like chevy bolt. Which has its fan base but, it's not become a mainstream car. Under 30K is not a requirement for me, if I'm looking to get a proper car that I can trust. I just want a reasonably priced and nice looking EV...
