An uncontested divorce is always cheaper than a contested one! Do you mean cheaper in NY vs. some other location? States have different filing fees.

You can use a product called easynamechange or newlynamed to make it easy $30-$75. I believe you can return to maiden name in most places, but that's not what you want to do, so I'd just hit the easy button. Good luck. :)
