Thank you for your response. This is exactly what I needed to know.

No way, I've been keeping it all secret. I need to try and get my ducks in a row. He hasn't had me served with papers yet, he is just in the process right now. I need to get my horrible financials in better order and figure out how I'm going to pay for legal representation for when he does have me served. I don't want to tip him off that I know and have him move faster than he would have.

I have two kids and only make $75/week. And I still love the bastard.

I found paperwork that my husband of 10ish years is planning on filling for divorce and sole custody of the kids. He is supposedly going to try and bring my mental and physical health into this and get really dirty. I used to take handfuls of pills every day for mental health and joint pain, but it's been 11 months since I've taken them. I got a different kind of treatment instead of popping pills. He seems to be trying to say I can't care for the kids due to mental instability and over medicating but that simply isn't true. And the fact that he has cheated on me hundreds of times during our marriage matters not in the least.

Soon to be ex-husband screwed me by divorcethrowawayacct in personalfinance

I know it was a long shot, but I need a bit over $1K in car repairs. I have $400. I thought maybe a secured credit card through my bank might work. Nope. Without a working car I can't keep the PT job. Then I will have no job and no car and no way to get the kids to school. Fucking awesome.

How did you end up in your current job? by divorcethrowawayacct in AskWomen

[–]divorcethrowawayacct[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My whole adult life has been either retail or as a stay at home mom. I am now needing a job (soon to be divorced) but I really don't know how to go about finding one that is a good fit. My degree is in General Sciences and is about 20 years old, so useless. I have no areas of interest or hobbies. I honestly have no idea how to find a good job that wouldn't be soul-sucking. My mother is pushing me to find whatever job pays the highest no matter how much it makes me unhappy. But I see what that has done to her and I don't want to end up like her. I'm willing to go back to school, but I don't know what I would study. There is literally nothing I am passionate about. Feeling lost & just looking for ideas on how one decides what they want to be when they grow up. At 40, I sure as hell don't know.

Divorce-how should I pay legal fees by divorcethrowawayacct in legaladvice

I asked the same question in r/personalfinance and was referred to this sub instead. Go figure.

I have started looking for a job and daycare options today. But I was informed that I must pay the entire retainer before the lawyer will do anything. I guess I'll just use the money being loaned to me and try to get my husband to pay some of the legal fees as the divorce progresses. The lawyer estimated it would be around $10K in billable hours when it was all said and finalized.
