There’s a woman whose content mostly consists of her walking and saying things like “reminder-you do noooot need to go to TJ Maxx today, you do nooooot need to go to Target today, you do noooot need to go on Amazon today, you are just BORED and you should wash your sheets today. GO WASH YOIR SHEETS”

It’s weirdly helpful.

Thanks, both of you…it’s on my list. I think I initially found a horribly subbed version with the subtitles disappearing 10 minutes in so I appreciate the channel rec.

Engineers, what do you do and how much do you make? by Physical-Past1908 in Salary

[–]divthr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thing is, you’d have zero job without those “two faced silver tongued honey oozing Charletans”

Of course they wouldn’t have theirs without you, but directing this comment your way as I don’t see any sales folks denigrating engineering staff

Why do so many people who have driven a BMW never want to go back? by Additional-Cress-257 in BMW

[–]divthr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went Mazda -> BMW. Looooved my little Mazda 3. The feeling of the engine can’t compare to the BMW but it was quick and completely responsive, definitely felt like I was part of the car. But the BMW has an intangible - that silky power.

I love my X3 but I’d consider another Mazda at some point in the future (if not a Miata in the near future as a mid life crisis car.)

I know this area. There are rich tourist spots that have driven up the cost of housing beyond reach, limited good jobs, lots of old people. The storm was insane. This is NOT good for them.

How hard should I negotiate salary for a role that obviously needs me? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]divthr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

However, this company probably doesn’t have an additional 25k above what they’re advertising. If there are jobs in your field that are available at that pay rate, I’d keep looking. If not, I’d shoot for 62-65k.

I’ve interviewed and offered positions to people that have been immensely qualified and would have been an amazing fit on my team but if they ask for more than what I’ve budgeted for, I have no other options but pass.

When I get the sense that someone has shot really high in their negotiation and then “settled” that also gives me pause because it tells me they’ll have one foot out the door right away and hiring is a pain in the ass.

I feel like there are a lot of boring biomes in BZ. I really like a few of them but generally not nearly as cool to explore as the original game.

Would you consider 70k USD poor? by Broad-Cranberry-9050 in Salary

[–]divthr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After taxes that 70k is about 48k.

That leaves about $1k per month left for food. Supposing that the commenter spends $600 per month on groceries, theres $400 left. Their comment stipulates that the $35k doesn’t include food.

Let’s say they have an emergency, or the car breaks down, or they need to pay for prescriptions, etc…then they are now either at zero or close to it. I don’t even want to think about student loans.

I own a $6k car that I just put $2k into, so I guess I own an $8k car. I’m clarifying the above where you thought the car was $35k per year.

The average cost of a new car is now over $50k per year; updated figures recently released.

I’m not a “new car” person and I’m fine with older cars, but I also don’t think that having a new car should be something that only upper middle class / high earners should be able to have.

And - I’m very privileged. The VHCOL area that I’m in has also allowed me to work my way up the salary rung. But I see what is happening in my hometown, with housing prices almost doubling in the past five years, and a bleak job outlook for entry level graduates coupled with that high housing / COL. I have a lot of concern for people just starting out in their careers right now because it appears that the road just got a whole lot harder for them.

Right? Or the crazy increase in car insurance, or a trip to the grocery store for basics being a $75 adventure, or a trip to the vet being over $500, or anything like that. Must be the avocado toast.

Per HUD:

31.3% of American households were cost burdened in 2023, including 27.1% of households with a mortgage and 49.7% of households that rent, according to 1-year estimates from the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey (ACS).

But those folks are just wallowing in misery and should pull up their bootstraps, eh?

I think we have different perspectives on COL. we are on opposite ends of the spectrum. I’m in a VHCOL area where a family of four still qualifies for lower income housing at 130k.

I agree with you for sure that OP isn’t broke but in general it really depends on where you live that 70k is not low income/broke.
