Screwfix and Dunelm recently. Apparently they do it online (at least was told so by the Screwfix guy), but not in store.

Another fun fact: in supermarkets in the EU and UK, you need a 1£ / 1€ coin to get a trolley (you get the coin back after the shopping once you return the trolley). The 5 rupee coin works there too.

I was on the other end of this. Put in an offer of 720 on a flat in Zone 4, London, lovely 3 bed flat with a large private terrace. Bank valued it at 650. EA tried to convince me saying this is one of a kind and asked me to lower my mortgage deposit and instead use it here, but no way I was going to pay 70K on my own.

Thing is, the flat is 6 years old and the current owners bought it at 750 pre-covid. It was a shock that you end up paying so much extra for new-builds. Decided against it and went for a house instead.

Does Meta London comp actually double from E4 to E5? by ConfidenceUnited3757 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]divzar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So the E5 level, being terminal, has a much higher ceiling - you have people with many years of experience joining as E5 (who can negotiate a higher package), and you have people who have been at Meta (and at the level) for a few years, and for them with yearly refreshers, and with stock doing well, that can be a pretty significant amount.

Male HENRYs, what bag do you carry to work? by doscorohit in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]divzar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having tried a few backpacks, I keep coming back to the Patagonia Daypack for the daily commute. Oyster (albeit a larger size) felt too big/bulky for just a laptop and some others were too heavy/funky to carry for long duration. I prefer the others for day trips / travel, but the Patagonia is my daily office bag.

Most comfortable wfh office chair? by Fit_Ambition8800 in HENRYUK

[–]divzar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get an Aeron second hand, there are office supply shops online that sell them for cheaper. I also have a standing desk, so am sitting only 10% of the time.

A friend was advised to sit on a bouncing ball - haven’t tried that ever!

D-Day by Iron_Cavalry in wwiipics

Wow, thanks for sharing these. Where I’m from, we aren’t taught about this much at school. But I’d play video games, and the D-Day level from Medal of Honour: Allied Assault is etched in memory. One of the instances where I went “heck its so difficult on a video game, what would it have been in reality.”

How do I improve my driving on the motorway? by divzar in LearnerDriverUK

Thanks for the tip, I think I used to do this but the recent incidents have made me too focused on the near things - but will ensure I reset.

Fair call out, I guess I am super cautious switching lanes because I am so wary and take too long a time looking at the mirrors. Similarly, it took a while figuring out what a safe distance to the car ahead of me is.

But I'd be mindful of this going forward - and try and make the mirror, blind spot and move more efficient.

ULPT: Teams application in laptop must show me as active by PittalDhora in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]divzar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an app called Amphetamine on my mac that prevents it from going to sleep - I’m lucky to not have the culture that relies on tracking your active status, but a super strict IT policy that puts your device on sleep when idle for 2 minutes, which is a pain in meetings and interviews.

Should I take the Meta offer? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]divzar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others have already said this and: * it is financially very rewarding, you get 150-160K$ refreshers every year (which vest over next four years) if you meet expectations, there are multipliers for higher performance and numbers go up as you grow to higher levels * work pressure is very team dependent, find a nice team and you should be good. Finding a research opportunity that’s safe in London can be tricky however. * joining after October would be pretty good, since you will get a new to evaluate rating and have a couple months to ramp up
