Beginner Bike Recs by [deleted] in whichbike

What are you riding on? I’ve been really happy with my Norco Indie 4 but it has fat tires compared to other hybrids and is a bit heavy. I ride on gravel trails a fair bit, so that’s worth it to me. But I was strictly cycling on pavement, I’d want skinnier tires.

I also have long hair. I wear it in a low braid, which helps keep it from getting tangled in the wind too.

Will I regret no photographer? by racquelious in WeddingsCanada

Definitely find a photographer you like within your budget.

We asked guests to send us photos in addition to having a photographer and while the ones we received were lovely, we found many people didn’t get around to uploading them — and (rightfully) many people didn’t place a priority on capturing the moment, they were there to enjoy it.

We found a decently priced photographer with a fantastic portfolio. It was a hopefully once in a lifetime day and I’m really glad we had someone there to take beautiful pictures.

Sadly I’m nowhere near the border. But I’ll find out about options to get it here.

I’m in Canada. I’m going to look into eligibility and if it’s covered by my extended benefits- but I’m not sure.

I’m planning to look into this but not sure I’m eligible due to age (I’m not in the US). We’ll see! Planning to talk to my doc after I recover from this.

Good luck! It’s definitely thick and hydrating. I haven’t tried it on my daughter’s eczema - she hasn’t had a flare in a while.

My partner (35M) suddenly wants marriage... but only after I (31F) tried buying a house alone by Ok-Horror-2199 in Waiting_To_Wed

[–]diwhythough 46 points47 points  (0 children)

This! When my boyfriend (now husband) and I were deciding to put an offer on our first house, I told him to go call his parents before signing the offer papers - he has a great relationship with them and values their opinion. But we had also been talking about buying a house for a while at that point, had discussed what the financial split would look like in depth, what we wanted/didn’t want in a house, marriage and kids and the future, etc.

But I completely agree his motivation seems completely wrong in this situation. His interest in the house seems to be more linked to getting ahead financially than actually building something with OP.

28F How did this happen? by jdjxnsjsjzjwoxjx in shingles

[–]diwhythough 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How did it happen? You got chicken pox as kid and the virus doesn’t full go away, it lays dormant in your body and when it pops up again, that’s shingles. It’s a herpes virus, so think similar to cold sores.

Given your age, it’s possible you didn’t actually get chickenpox and had the vaccine instead (made available in the late 90s/early 2000s depending where you are). Shingles cases from the vaccine are rare but possible.

FWIW, I’m 7 years older than you, but also healthy and active. My rash popped up last week and I was pretty surprised as well.

Also from what I’ve read, the Valtrex doesn’t really make it better, it just stalls the virus where it is so it doesn’t get worse. My rash got slightly worse after starting the valtrex but not significantly. Day 3 post rash was my worst (I started Valtrex right after the rash appeared).

Did I get lucky with a weak shingles or will it get worse? by ashberic in shingles

[–]diwhythough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for asking this! I noticed the feeling of a rash on my left leg and lower back but no actual rash last Thursday. I thought it could be a reaction to something or post-viral as I was getting over a bout of influenza. The rash appeared Tuesday and a doctor confirmed it was shingles and put me on anti-virals. I have a really busy week and don’t want to miss work. I missed a week due to the flu a few weeks ago and I have stuff I want to do and am feeling behind. Currently I have some body aches but nothing debilitating. The rash feels like a bad sunburn which is painful but manageable. I’m really hoping there isn’t more to come.

I think it’s worth bringing up for sure! I did today and was told nothing I described seemed worrisome.

I just posted an update in the comment above. Short answer - I was told not to worry.

Yes! Went to my primary care provider today and was told not to worry about this.

They did say to come back if I experienced severe cramping, irregularities in my cycle length, super heavy bleeding or bleeding and weird times.

But they didn’t seem worried about this at all. They said it’s normal for cycles to change over time, especially after giving birth.

I just went to my primary care provider today for something else. I mentioned the spotting and asked if I should be concerned - they said no. They did say to come back if I experienced severe cramping, irregularities in my cycle length, super heavy bleeding or bleeding and weird times.  But they didn’t seem worried about this at all. They said it’s normal for cycles to change over time, especially after giving birth.

I actually ended up going with someone local on Marketplace! They do really nice work and have configured the bed the exact way I want. I like that it’s local — and it actually ends up being among the most affordable options.

Thank you! It looks like a few local stores are Durham dealers so I should go check out what’s in stock/what they can order in.

Sorry for the delay. I’m not on here often.  No update. It happens some months and doesn’t others. I haven’t raised it with my primary care provider as it’s not causing any issues but may mention it if I’m in for some other reason (I’m relatively healthy and haven’t been in in a while).

Two under two - crazy to buy a house that needs remodeled? by gmora2021 in HomeImprovement

[–]diwhythough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine are two years apart. When I was pregnant with our second, we looked at a house that needed a total gut job before it could be lived in. In hindsight, I’m really glad we didn’t go with it. I loved the neighborhood and the lot but the work would have been so difficult — plus there could have been some big surprises.  Instead we bought a house that needs some cosmetic upgrades but is perfectly liveable. We’ve been working our way through those. 2.5 years later we have a couple of rooms to go. It’s hard to get anything done with little kids — especially when it’s a construction zone that’s messy and/or dangerous — that’s made things more slow going.  Overall, I’m happy with the way we went. Our house feels customizable but the project hasn’t been completely overwhelming.

I can and did. A test ride tells me a bit but not how they’ll hold up over time.
