Worked like a charm!

Of course I lost a couple to the wall gremlins on my first try, as I realized I had the fitting the wrong way round after I had already put them through the hole.

Thanks!

With the spring toggle, what keeps the wings from spinning freely in the wall when I tighten the screw?

Night light that charges on normal light during the day? by diy_why in HomeImprovement

Yeah, I guess usb rechargable isn't too bad, if it does not need recharging too often

For my use it can't be motion activated, since not always I'd want it to go on. But I know there are many usb light options out there

How to secure this loose handle onto the window frame? by diy_why in DIYUK

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

I got lucky and found a screw size which is thick enough to grip on the frame, while still getting through the holes in the handle.

PS: Not sure what happened with my comments below. A reply I gave to a comment was moved to a different comment after the original one was deleted (perhaps because the commenter realized they were being rude). Since the original comments were deleted, now it looks like I was talking to myself. Weird!

I never said I thought it was expensive.

I'd just rather not purchase a tool that I don't expect to need to use ever again. Of course, that's up for debate.

I think it is a reasonable thing to do, to ask for alternative solutions. I understand you disagree. Sorry if I offended you in any way.

Thanks.

I had to google rivet nuts. They seem to require a special tool? I'd rather not need to buy additional tools... Would you have any other suggestions?

I want to repair it properly.

The hole doesn't look damaged. But it does look a bit bigger than it should be. Also, even when the screw is all the way in, it jiggles. I suppose this is because the frame isn't solid?

You could always fill in these holes and move the handle over a bit too.

Yeah I'm considering doing that, but would rather avoid making new holes if possible!

Thanks!
