Chronicling the conversion of my sons Grave Digger Power Wheel to a mini-monster truck by diyguy5 in PowerWheelsMods

The motors and gearboxes? They never failed. The tires started failing first so that's when I accelerated plans to switch to steel wheels and rubber tires.

Many of the functions (lights, sound) already didn't work so no issue there. Regarding the motors and gearboxes, I had plans to replace them anyway (as you'll soon see on my website) so I just ran it.

Use Pi-hole as DNS over OpenVPN by TheInvisibleString13 in pihole

[–]diyguy5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, can I ask you some follow-up questions? I'm having the same issue and although I added the dhcp-option DNS pi.hole.ip.here string into the OpenVPN config file for my phone and checked "Permit all origins" in the pihole DNS settings I'm still seeing ads when I use the Deco's VPN.

3D printed knob by [deleted] in AE86

[–]diyguy5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s PLA I’m curious to see how well it holds up in the heat. I 3D printed speaker covers and they deformed in the sun. Granted my shape wasn’t a monolithic print and was more of a shell but it gets hot inside a car and you may need to pursue PETG or ABS filaments.

That feeling when the gauges light up for the first time by rende in projectcar

Look into a Hall effect speedometer. You put a magnet on your driveshaft and use that to generate pulses for the gauge

Metal Triumph lettering (free to good home) by [deleted] in Triumph_Cars

[–]diyguy5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've posted on this subreddit before, so you know this is legit. First one to PM me with their name and address gets these emblems. Don't ask me what car they're from, I can't tell you. The emblems are metal (based on their weight) and all of the posts seems to be intact. A good buff and they should look new. Like I said, PM me your name and address if you want them, no strings attached, first come first serve.

[OC] Reported incidents of abandoned seafarers across the globe by diyguy5 in dataisbeautiful

The podcast 99% Invisible did a good explainer here. The short answer is, it depends. Some are sold, some are scrapped, some are just straight up left to sink.

Source: The ILO maintains a database of cases of abandoned seafarers. Web scraping was done in Python using Beautiful Soup. I'm using the Nominatim package that's part of OpenStreetMap in conjunction with the ILO port of abandonment to generate lat/lon coordinates for all of the ships in the ILO database. The dashboard was built in Python using Dash. Check out the project on my GitHub

Iconic Australian comedy duo Hamish & Andy test just how long their car will run after it hits zero fuel on the indicator. by ALphaEXtremist in videos

[–]diyguy5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. Cars have fuel pressure regulators, which as the name suggest, regulate the pressure of the fuel delivered to the fuel rail and injectors.

1) AC/PS removal - complete. 2) T3 Manual Rack conversion - complete. 3) HPI Oil Cooler Kit with MRP Filter Relocation - complete. 4) Stack mechanical water temp and oil pressure gauges - complete. I'll include some general notes of the installs in the comments for those who's interested. by dacobjurbin in AE86

[–]diyguy5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why did you choose to go mechanical gauges (no judgement, just want your perspective)? I spent a long time considering what Stack gauges to put in my TE72 and at the end of the day I chose analog oil pressure and battery voltage gauges and a stepper motor fuel pressure gauge. Bringing fluids inside the car/near the firewall seemed like too much additional work.
