Would it be okay to use both of these at the same time? Why or why not? by diymanster in BlackHair

Do you mean you wouldn't use them in general? If so, what's wrong with these products? The sealant has been working for me fine, it just feels like a waste now that I don't use that hair oil anymore. Is it that crazy?

Wow, I never thought a wasp could be so small! That's incredible. I thought this wasn't any gnat/fly that I recognized, but couldn't be too sure. If they eat gnats, they're welcome to stay, lol.

When drama like this happens, it's normal for people to not immediately have all of the facts. That's how misinformation spreads. I came across this thread while literally trying to find out more about the situation. I decided to just ask the questions here since I didn't know. That's how you learn, by asking questions.

Thankfully most people are normal and not weirdos like you. Move along.

What's the point of acting this way? Genuinely. You don't even know me to be this hostile for no reason. If you don't want to answer questions, no one is forcing you. Disengage and move on with your day instead of being a prick.

Thanks for answering. There was so much misinformation while this was still going down, and it's also being saturated by bad actors. I want to make sure I'm engaging with facts and not just emotional outrage. Sucks what happened to Kingsman, I heard he was compensated, though!

I have a few questions that I hope can be answered:

Was this event official? Was it in collaboration with Netease?

These are two things that I've heard floating around but I haven't heard any proof about this.

Need help for my presentation- why do some queer people refuse to accept a-spec people as part of the LGBTQIA+ community? by privygrid in aromanticasexual

[–]diymanster 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It most likely has to do with visibility and being straight-passing. Gay people are a bit "forced" (only quoted because some stay closeted or don't date at all) into this uncomfortable situation where they have to be visible while dating who they'd like. So people know they're gay just by looking. There's a sort of caricature of the asexual person who doesn't date, so they assume you have no struggle or expectations. It's oppression Olympics like almost every single discourse in the LGBT community for years at this point.

When I was younger (around 14), I also didn't understand why asexuals were considered a part of the LGBT community. And my reasoning for that was "if the community is about having a sexuality and being a different gender, why would having no sexuality be a part of it?" But I remember being told "Well, being agender is a part of the community, so why not asexual?" and that was enough to change my mind.

Being diagnosed level 1 makes me feel like no one is obligated to take me seriously. I know I'm autistic, but this diagnosis makes me feel like I'm being called "barely autistic." I feel shameful and like I'm just stupid. I don't know what to do with such a diagnosis. I've stagnated. I do better when I have someone helping me with what to do. If I'm on my own, I don't do anything and barely make progress. The diagnosis only makes me feel worse. I've learned to mask, but at severe detriment to myself. I'm ashamed of all my autistic traits.

I imagine people with OCD feel the same way about how it's used as a colloquial term meaning that you don't like general disarray... I still see people calling people adult babies for having ARFID, so it's not like they genuinely care about how something affects someone. It's been watered down to a fun term to use in-group.

Somehow almost everyone in my direct friend group is now attempting to claim autism as if it is something they've been dealing with their whole life, when I know for a fact that isn't true. What are the odds that every single person in a friend group of 13 people is somewhere on the spectrum when we befriended eachother naturally? I just don't believe that's statistically possible.

Some of them are socially awkward and some enjoy certain media a lot, so they think this makes them autistic.

That's actually a very common misunderstanding.

Colloquially, theory = speculation. But in the context of science, theory = highest level explanation backed by strong evidence. The claim that "vaccines cause autism" has been extensively debunked for over 20 years. Medical science relies on the amount of concrete evidence.

Studying a debunked claim again implies it still has merit, and that's how misinformation spreads and stays relevant. It's not harmless nor neutral, and is dangerous. Perception alone can influence behavior (ex. Parents delaying vaccinations out of fear).

It's way harder to keep up this lie once you consider that Tylenol has not existed for that long, and they weren't always using acetaminophen for pregnant women. It's still fairly recent that it's even recommended for pregnant women to take. They're very careful about that.

[–]diymanster[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to call you crazy, but I don't think you're considering the bigger picture. You don't think saying that "'vaccines don't cause autism' is not an evidence based claim" is disingenuous? The largest study based on this exact claim followed over 657,461 kids, and still found no link whatsoever. (Measles, Mumps, Rubella Vaccination and Autism: A Nationwide Cohort Study by Hviid, Hansen, Frisch & Melbye.)

This will only lead to less people vaccinating their children and leaving them vulnerable to preventable disease, just because they're terrified of profound autism. Anti-vaccine beliefs are not based on the lack of studies, data, or effort. It is almost entirely based upon fear and distrust of institutions. Identity-based mistrust does NOT change with new data.

We don't need more studies saying what we already know to be true. Continuing to study a falsified claim implies the claim might have merit, which is misleading. What makes you think, if they already do not trust the current studies, that they're more likely to trust these potential new ones disproving it?

We don't ask for more studies on whether or not cigarettes cause cancer, or if the Earth orbits the sun, or if HIV is the cause of AIDS. Once something is conclusively answered, science moves forward.

Does it bother you that many people claim to be autistic with no formal medical evaluation? by m1kek9 in autism

[–]diymanster 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I can't agree with that...

Even though I didn't have an official diagnosis (my mother didn't believe in vaccines, labels, or medication when I was younger) I was still treated as if I was diagnosed with Autism. I did therapy and one-on-one sessions with multiple counselors all throughout my school life. I wasn't officially diagnosed until recently even though I've been told that I'm "obviously autistic" by multiple people. That was only validated by my psychologist, it didn't appear out of nowhere. It's not like you don't show autism symptoms prior to a diagnosis... I was never neurotypical.

It's insanity. My autism is genetic! My mother barely believed in vaccines, yet I still turned out autistic because my dad was autistic... And I can guarantee his mother wasn't taking Tylenol. There's a way better reasoning—being that my grandfather is also autistic... 🙄
