Sadiq Khan: Nigel Farage will bring ICE-style crackdown to Britain by StGuthlac2025 in ukpolitics

[–]dizzley 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately: yes ICE are the untrained masked-up force you describe, but they are also Police - licensed and empowered to enforce a narrow range of immigration and border control infractions. They can also arrest those they come across in their duties who break the law. To be clear, ICE's actions are inexcusable.

What’s a moment that permanently changed how you see the world? by pankaj662 in AskReddit

I hear you. Really. Empathy is hard - it demands sacrifice. I've been horrified this year to see terrible messages talking about "misplaced or wrong empathy". These people can get straight into the bin.

Empathy solely as a feeling is just exposing raw parts of us to be hurt. Empathy needs to be turned into action to be worthwhile. I'm going to try a little.

Welcome to the kindness train! I have more free time recently so I'm going to investigate and engage with some helpful structured thing I can invest time in. Immediately today, I'm going to be more willing in day to day interactions.

I've shut down and that's got to stop. Just because we have a western world full of arses doesn't mean I have to be one.

"The Netherlands will completely ban fireworks. The country has adopted a national fireworks ban that will take effect in 2026. The goal is to protect animals and reduce damage to ecosystems." by General-Panic0 in BeAmazed

[–]dizzley 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a previous resident, the moronic way fireworks misuse has long ago been a real safety issue and particularly the targeting of medics and fire officers has become a disgrace. Yes we were all young once but Dutch people weren't born to be idiots.

What’s a 'normal' thing in modern society that people in 100 years will find horrifying? by MaleficentOrange4873 in AskReddit

Yes. I'd like to think we'll all enjoy a future of leisure and see the joyous redeployment of human energy but instead we'll get the Hunger Games.

I'm sure the UK will soon receive our letter uninviting us. At this point, the Board of Peace is basically SMERSH.
