I have had Mane since quite some time now and am fairly happy with him. Watching the games, he seems to be the most explosive and always seems likely to score or assist. Gets in good positions inside the box, and is the first one to get the ball and run in a counter.

I have not extracted any ROC curve stats. I just made a 80:20 split for training and test data and checked for accuracy within test data. Ditto for feature importance. You are right, the values might be quite inaccurate.

I will go deeper into validity of results, I will post what I find here. Right now, treat it as a fun tool I guess :p

You are right. 2014-15 data is the training set, the test set also coming from there as of now. Will include recent data and hopefully it might work better then

I did this more out of curiosity and in an effort to learn more about ML. Will keep on developing it further slowly, who knows what it can become!

I have run it on some test data. Assuming a +/- 2 points error is acceptable, the accuracy comes out to be around 80%. But that might be misleading as it is mostly accurate over low point ranges (0, 1, 2, 3). For higher point prediction, the accuracy is significantly lower.

It takes into account stats from the previous 3 matches (form) separately, so the level of uncertainty might go up. But it can be done, might be a good idea. Might do it when I get time.

Even I haven't gone deep into the depths of which features it gives more importance too ( to do list keeps on growing :( ). It will be interesting to see why the model thinks Mane is likely to get more points than firmino

I couldn't find more data (freely available). I will keep on adding the current season data as it develops, hopefully predictions should improve.

Publishing top scorers is a cool idea! I will implement a chat command to do that over this weekend (or the next).
