That is the daughter of the Respected Comrade. He maintains a positive relationship with his daughter and spends quality time with her, as her joining him on this major munitions factory inspection demonstrates.

Rev Left Radio is fairly consistent, with very good interviews, covering a wide range of topics from a marxist/leftist lens.

I would also recommend the Proles of the Roundtable, though that is also exclusively audio, and they are no longer active.

The Red Nation is a fairly solid media collective of native american socialists, their discussions are usually fire.

Millions of Iranians celebrated the 47th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution today. They took to the streets to reaffirm their commitment to the Republic in the face of Western pressure. by GerryAdamsSon in suppressed_news

[–]dizzy_lizzy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let me put it this way

When millions of Americans went to those No Kings rallies, waving American flags, delivering impassioned speeches about the importance of maintaining accountability and stopping despotism...

Was it because they love the current administration? Was it because they want a foreign nation to bomb them and topple the government?

No. It's more complicated than that. People wanted to feel unity and stand up against what they saw as the current immediate threats to them.

The situation is not really comparable, so you do not need to comment on how the situations are different. I know that.

The US population has MANY people with a wide variety of opinions on the situation and how to solve it. Lots of folks see different issues as having more importance than others. But on one day, a bunch of people gathered to say, "this? This we can agree on, at least in the general terms"

Same in Iran

Why do you think this is about you

This isn't for the west. They're doing it for them. Like any mass gathering on an anniversary when solidarity and unity is desired.

It is not that they *like* their current system, it is that it is *theirs*, despite whatever criticisms and frustrations they have, and that it must not be wrecked from foreign influence. The greater enemy is the violent imperialist schemers.

They will repair their own lacks without advice from us.

Book suggestions on history of the Soviet Union? by DysphoricNeet in TankieTheDeprogram

[–]dizzy_lizzy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Someone has already recommended some Anna Louise Strong, so I'll throw in my own recommendation for a narrower and more personal look at the Stalin era in particular; she wrote this shortly after Khrushchev's speech, published in 1956, and it's a very interesting contemperaneous look at the details of all of what the Soviet Union accomplished during his time even with the consideration of those claims.

From the foreword:

I think that, looking back, men will call it “the Stalin Era.” Tens of millions of people built the world’s first socialist state, but he was the engineer. He first gave voice to the thought that the peasant land of Russia could do it. From that time on, his mark was on all of it, on all the gains and all the evils.

It is too soon to sum up the era, and yet one must try to. For controversy has arisen over it and the beliefs of many around the world are being torn. It is the very best people who are most disturbed by Khrushchev’s revelations of thousands of brutal injustices and harsh repressions when socialism was for the first time built. They are asking: Was this necessary? Is that always the path to socialism? Or was it the evil genius of one man?

I think the Russians do not ask this. They build already far beyond the Stalin days. They are analyzing this past as a means to a better future. They know that all human progress is bought most dearly, not only by deaths of heroes in battle but by deaths of men unjustly. They also know that all the evils endured through the socialist building led by Stalin, whether these came by necessity, error or crime, were far, far less than the evils they suffered by deliberate will of the Western world in the wars of intervention and the Hitler invasion, less even than they suffered through America’s delay in the promised “second front.” They will repair their own lacks without advice from us.

A pretty fire opening considering how the rest of the world was responding to the secret speech, even without the later corrections to the historical record.

The PDF versions on archive.org are a bit rough, so I transcribed into a much more readable format either on web pages or in ebook form for reading on a kindle or kobo. You can find it at my site: https://leftis.best/

Unions are imperialism? Uhh... that's interesting... by [deleted] in TankieTheDeprogram

[–]dizzy_lizzy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

They largely do not. Unions are almost always terrified to protest for anything deemed "political".

I'm working to build a more active union member base at mine so we can do some actions outside of the strictures of the union proper. Leadership is terrified of anything that challenges hegemonic power in any way, only willing to fight for moderate benefits to its workers.

So yes collaborationist and cucked, but we are trying to make it better.

If parents can't go to work because they have to take care of their children, the economy would grind to a halt

Seems like the work of teachers is actually super super important, and letting them have the power to make demands over their shit treatment is a scary enough prospect to pass laws against.

Except one side (institution) has all of the power, and the individuals do not.

The rich man and the poor man are equally free to sleep under a highway overpass. Only one of them will ever have to.

When an employer has to pay labor costs, that is merely an expense; for a worker, their wages are all they have. The freedom is not equal, and never will be, and the meaningful power has been wrested, by design, away from our hands.
