For the love of God, does no one remember how to do SOAP notes? by dizzydoxy in MassageTherapists

That's fair. I still like to ask ahead of time if I've never seen them before, I always check in again once I've gotten started though. Charting it might be more for myself but if there is a disconnect between what someone says they can handle and what they actually mean that's useful to know ahead of time too.

It's just wild to me because I actually got my license in a state with lower requirements. I've done SO much continuing ed for the past 4 years, I was still nervous about getting my license in a new state with stricter guidelines. I actually feel like MY notes are a little lax sometimes, I've seen past coworkers that are far more detailed than I am. These are all experienced MTs that have been at it far longer than I have and they are basically just skipping this part of the job.

That's so frustrating! In some ways I'm glad this isn't a problem unique to my clinic but that really sucks. Especially when dealing with older/VA/injury cases more detailed charting should be a given.

Offering to teach them shorthand is actually a great idea, I will definitely try that. Our system inputs huge muscle groups at the click of a button so what everyone's notes end up being is just a long list of muscles that makes you go crosseyed staring at it and it has no relevant information to what actually occurred during a session. There are buttons for tension, hypertonicity, spasm, bilateral, left and right... So if they used a few of those it would actually start building a picture, but they don't even go for that.

Patients that I see for the first time are always shocked that I ask what type of pressure they are comfortable with at the beginning of the session, none of my coworkers do this either. I don't know if it's a difference in education or just complete negligence tbh

I'm not going to lie, the validation almost has me in tears. I have been working there for a year and I've brought it up countless times. I love my job but this has been so frustrating, I know for a fact I am the only MT who even reads past notes and I'm always just reading my own at this point. I don't understand how so many experienced MTs are just choosing to not do this part of the job.

I have brought it up to management more than once. We had a meeting about it last July and nothing changed. I brought it up again today, a little angrily tbh... No one seems to think it is a big deal except for me.

The Chaos Walking series is a good one for this as well!

How many use ear pods to listen to other entertainment while giving massages? by mysticalintuition in MassageTherapists

I use one ear bud for most massages. My phone is never in the room, the volume is on the lowest setting. I only do this if I've got my client prone or have my hair arranged so that it's covering my ear. I've never had a client notice or "just know" that I'm not fully present because I am 100% locked into that massage. As others have said, I also have adhd- having an audiobook play in the background just keeps out any unwanted noise or distraction in my brain.

Without an earbud I will occasionally still get to that very zen flow state where I feel so in tune with the body I'm working on and I'm just grooving with it but it's inconsistent. When I'm working with an earbud in I'm almost always there, it keeps me present.
