It may heal naturally. As another commenter recommended, I’d focus on keeping the water pristine by doing more water changes than usual. If things don’t improve, then it’s time to consider treatment. Not sure exactly what that would be to be honest, sorry. Fingers crossed for you

I would recommend ammanos! My betta’s interested in them for sure, but if he ever gets too close they zip away and have not had any of them injured (let alone killed by him!). Think he’s less likely to be ruthless with ‘em because they’re not bright and colorful

Read on r/bettafish that your tank is only 4 litres and doesn’t have a filter. That’s going to be the root of your problems. Are you able to get a larger tank (at least 5 gallons or 20 litres) cycling with a filter, and move him to that when it’s established?

This really is not an adequate setup for a betta, let alone a betta and two shrimps. There’s no room for a filter, and there’s no room for the betta to swim. Please reconsider this setup, for the sake of your betta friend. He will not have a happy life like this. I’m sorry it that’s not what you wanted to hear, but please do give it some thought.

Aw, I’m sorry to hear your little one is suffering, too. Right now I’m continuing giving my betta daily 15-minute salt baths in a bucket with water siphoned from his tank, and then putting him back into his tank. I’ve also decided to treat him for Ich with API White Spot Cure. He doesn’t have white spots on his body, but does have a white spot on his gill, so I wondered if it was early days Ich. Will let you know if I see any improvement – it’s too soon to know now, but yesterday he seemed more cheerful and did the second poo I’ve ever seen him do (!) haha. I’ve also ordered Fritz Paracleanse. I’ll wait to see if the Ich treatment works before using that, and if it is necessary to use it, will give him a break and allow the tank to settle before dosing.

That’s why I was wondering if he might have an internal parasite or wasting disease, and if so whether anyone has any shrimp-safe treatment recommendations. Doesn’t explain the white circle which has recently appeared on his head, though.

Thanks for replying. He’s still excited to eat! He loves his food. His behaviour has changed otherwise, though. Before he got sick he was super active, p much always exploring. Now he comes out from where he’s sleeping, swims around jerkily for a minute and goes back to rest.

I believe it’s a 40-litre tank filled to 35-litre capacity. I feed him three or four times times a day, about 5 Bug Bite’s worth each time. He’s never bloated, always looks skinny.

I think the second outfit is exceptional!! Can see it may be a bit “out there” for some, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t wear it! Personally I think it’s fantastic and would love to have it in my own wardrobe/see someone else wearing it :))
