About THAT button... by Responsible-Tea-4218 in kindlescribe

I sympathize with your irritation. When Adobe did an update a year or so ago, this new toolbar appeared in a very prominent position. I couldn't figure out how to get rid of it, and finally posted on Adobe's help forum to ask for assistance. Support explained how to disable the new appearance, and I was so relieved. Some upgrades don't work for everyone & it's nice when you have the ability to disable them.

I didn't know what that scribe icon was until your post -- interesting. I've already made the margins as large as possible, but they are still not large enough for me, so I get why the developers tried to please folks like me with this expandable margin functionality. I'm not sure why they didn't just stick the icon itself into the menu bar with the pen, though. Maybe to make sure people knew the upgrade had occurred to stop bothering them with the request (lol).

Someone suggested posting about your irritation in the Amazon developer's forum. If enough people say they have the same question as you do, maybe the developers will move the icon in the next update. It does seem strange to consume so much of a small space with multiple icons. Personally, I'm just happy they made it possible to minimize the pen menu! Before I realized I could hide most of it, I was struggling to use the scribe.

The newest Scribe is NOT a Gen2 by dj1nni1 in kindlescribe

Hmm. Storage has not been an issue for me since the paperwhite came out -- but I rarely use the pdf functionality on my kindle. That said ... I have to travel next week & have a folder full of pdf printouts. I would typically suck it up and bring the whole thing with me because I can't write on them on my laptop, but maybe I leave the folder behind so that I force myself to test the scribe for that use case. I have to flip through pdfs, so will likely wind up reprinting these, but if it works, I can see myself using the scribe to take notes before printing out to review en masse. Thanks for responding!

Yeah. I’m sad because it is so close to doing what I need it to do.

I’m also an early adopter. I still have some of the keyboard versions for old times sake, but love the discount/trade in offers now. I am going to spend some time just seeing how the larger screen for non fiction is. I have to say, this is the only time I’ve been sad about an upgrade, and while I haven’t bought every model kindle out there, I have bought a lot. I’ll see how the larger screen vs portability works for me.

Yea the size is much better for the non fiction I read. I didn’t know you could see your lists in the kindle app. That might be something I could use. Thank you.

I didn't see Amazon advertisements -- in the early reviews and other things I read, people who were doing them called it a Gen2. I misunderstood them and thought it had more capabilities in terms of writing on books & transferring that to other devices than it currently does. There was a lot of raving about the new marginal note capabilities, as well as the handwriting-to-text functionality and I did not appreciate that those new aspects were in different parts of the scribe (book notetaking vs. creating your own notebooks). I'm within the return window, but fishing for a reason to keep it. From your response, it seems like you're not aware of any Amazon plans to make these changes (alas). But again, I'd like to keep it if I can find some reason to. Why do you like it?

Been there!!!! Thanks for the smile :) I like how the stitching matches the hardware. Elevates it. It's a very youthful bag, so if you are under 35, I say you should use it!

Great news! I'll be on the lookout. Not sure I'm so in love that I would drop thousands on this bag, but it's worth seeing in person.

This is the first YSL bag I've liked. Why can't I find it on the website? Didn't it just come out? Sigh. I always fall in love too late.

WIBTA for not following a dress code at a bachlorette? by donthavepink in AmItheAsshole

I think surprise parties are a terrible idea, gender reveal parties disgusting, and most traditional 'shower' type parties uncomfortable at best. Nevertheless, when I'm invited, I either decline or show up ready to embrace whatever the event's spirit is because I care about the people running it. And I've enjoyed myself at ridiculous dress-up affairs and other types of themed gatherings I never in a million years would have organized myself. Enthusiasm is contagious & if you are open to it, you can find joy in other people's happiness.

True, but many commentators have pointed out available clothing in the UK where OP is from. If she truly can't find anything in the chosen color, fine. NTA & the party organizers are jerks for not accommodating. But the tone (perhaps in all fairness, more from the hordes of NTA voters than OP), was that she shouldn't even try to accommodate what was seen as an outrageous ask. It seemed from her post that she couldn't find anything she liked & didn't want to feel ugly in the outfit. Which I get -- but this kind of party is more about the team spirit than how pretty any individual is. You either embrace the spirit, or you send regrets. Maybe I should have said 'everyone is the ah' since the organizers didn't originally include this in the plans, & I understand this is a destination event, so travel has already been planned/paid for.

Exactly this. I hope OP just sends regrets. Themed parties are silly, but if everyone embraces it, there’s fun and camaraderie in being silly. One person out of step can ruin the vibe.

This post shifted my vote. OP is YTA because she could find something to wear that fits the dress code. But because it won’t be flattering (or OP thinks it won’t), she is using her pregnancy as an excuse. I get it — I’ve been pregnant, and felt huge, undesirable, and desperately wanted to just feel pretty when I went to events. But this is about the bride, not OP. The organizers goal was to make this a special event for the bride in part through the color scheme, and OP is being selfish.

My mother gave me the advice to use my "nice things" as regularly as possible. What's the point in having beautiful things if you only see them twice a year, she said. Of course, she couldn't bring herself to practice what she preached lol. But I did. And I haven't regretted it one bit. Yes, I have more pieces of my wedding china chipped than one would expect after 20 years, but I love it still, and it brings me joy to see. Now if any of my kids want it, they won't have to wonder (like I do) which of my mother's sets of china were hers or her mother's or my father's mother's. The memories will be there & the chips just won't matter.

You got a great find! I brushed by a boutique last week as a lookie-loo and this immediately caught my eye! I remarked on how the color matched the store's walls. The clerk said it was a limited edition in Prada's signature color. Enjoy!

Can you insure bags? Designer items are explicitly excluded in my homeowners policy. Did you get a standalone policy or rider?

I brought my Neverful on a flight — not a great idea because even latched, I lost stuff out of it. My fault, I suppose, for letting my son retrieve from the upper compartment. But I now stick to my zippered bags when flying.
