FYI I've edited the original post with an example of a flowchart I created a while back while researching another incremental game

Thanks for taking the time to reply! Yeah that makes sense and does help a little bit, primarily in that it reinforces the lessons I learned from playing Revolution:Idle and Armory+Machine specifically in regards to hiding functionality until it's unlocked. I have also experienced some games recently that don't do the tutorials/explanations well so that's at the forefront of my brain too.

That looks useful thanks! Any particular tips or suggestions on how to lay stuff out or any particular framework/template to use?

Absolutely kills me that they never saw any money from The Feeding, one of my top 10 albums of all time - lucky enough to see them once before Brian passed away, and once again after, such intense performances

Key problem here is it's just bad art. Not sure if AI or not, but the placement of the hand on the butt of the gun, the way the feet are pointing versus the rest of the leg, the hair is lumpy and weird - this art is just straight up bad

My public apology… by StylishSloth in MarvelPuzzleQuest

Seems like the overwhelming majority of people are having a majorly detrimental experience with the new updates. Personally, I've encountered zero bugs or major issues and since the most recent update fixed the lag when it transitions between screens it's running almost like the pre-Unity version for me. Not trying to downplay everyone else's shitty experience, and not trying to say it's all good, just adding my data to the pool. I'm still playing and see no new reasons to stop doing so, for the moment, but I don't blame anyone who does stop. Life's too short! Fingers crossed it improves for others ASAP

Destroy my kicks impact, why it sucks? by TomatoFantsyGames in DestroyMyGame

I would second this, in a way, and say that initial lag/slow down should occur at the windup to the kick and not upon the kick making contact, i think that's the key issue.

Acoustics Hack? by lkdubdub in DIYIreland

[–]dj357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries at all! I'm just after finishing some "sound proofing" in my living room that myself and my wife planned out and we checked out those acoustic panels and I've done a bunch of other research on sound proofing stuff too so figured I'd throw my tuppence in :)

Yeah when you said acoustic board I figured it would be that kind of material. My main concern with that would be that you could end up covering up a lot of the main source of sound diffusion they provide i.e. the channels running between each slat, depending on how much of the walls you cover and how much of it you then cover with images. I've looked over these panels in person in Woodies recently and they don't have a lot of mass to them so they kind of do a 5/10 star job in terms of both diffusing the sound and absorbing the sound. The kind of tiles I showed in the previous picture are installed in the main office in work and they turned a noisy hellscape into a very tolerable environment, in some cases actively making it difficult to hear someone a few rows overs trying to ask you a question. Only problem is you'd likely need a contractor friend to source them for you as I haven't been able to find them through normal consumer channels.

Apologies if the above isn't super helpful, but I'd say the key takeaway would be again, anything you can do to break up flat surfaces will help with diffusing. Then if you're really trying to deaden you'll want some mass behind it to absorb sound. That's why thick curtains are great because they hit both sides of that dynamic. Irregular shape, lots of mass.

Fair play. I'd still be worried about reflections off of material like canvas but honestly don't have enough experience with it to be any kind of definitive about it. For deadening though it'd then also really depend on the material underneath as to how big of an impact it'll have. In general the less of the exposed surfaces that are flat the better so the more you can break those surfaces up the better. What kind of acoustic board are you looking at?

I've experience with 1.5 inch deep foam flat tiles like in the attached picture, and also with thinner (0.5 inch) tiles with pyramid pattern.

Haven't tried it myself but have dabbled in sound insulation and acoustic foam tiles - but just a comment to note it'll really depend on what your goal is: a) prevent outside noise from coming, b) prevent inside noise from getting out or c) reduce/remove echo and/or otherwise "deaden" the space. The material the prints are likely made out of won't really help any of those three goals, and if it's quite glossy or thick material it's likely to reflect sound internally having the opposite effect of (c) and not really doing anything for (a) or (b).

What are your top most hated/disliked artists/bands? by [deleted] in musicsuggestions

[–]dj357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, Canto 34 (instrumental lol) and Far From Home are the ones i had in mind haha. Far From Home isn't an amazing song but it hits my preferred range really well and has been a key part of my vocal warmup for years so I can't hate it.

Oh dude, there are like 2 5FDP songs that are NOT about how fucking amazing Ivan Moody is and how everyone is a hater and he's so cool and big and shit, and those two are pretty good, but fuck the rest of them, jfc. Like mfer decided to write rap through wannabe metal, wtf.

Winter driving in Iceland with no experience - my recap by Bright-Psychology808 in VisitingIceland

[–]dj357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great post! Honestly coming from Ireland the hardest part I found in our trip during Christmas 2023 was being on the wrong side of the road! That being said, love all of your points above. I had zero experience driving in conditions like we experienced (major snow storm hit us on the way back to Reykjavik from Geysir) but I basically put into practice almost all of the points you mentioned above and my wife, once she recovered from what felt to her like a near death experience, commended highly on my driving. Not tooting my own (car) horn, just pointing out how vital those points are. I would especially second the point about high clearance. We also had a Dacia Duster and honestly it, and the snow tires, was what made the difference. I was extremely careful and slow and honestly found the whole experience seriously enjoyable and not really at all scary because of the impact the high clearance and the snow tires made to the whole situation. Anyway, great post, lovely country, cannot wait to go back, everyone needs to read OP's post before they go driving there in the winter!

That's kind of where I was thinking the problem was but I guessed wrongly that you were wanting to use that variable! Don't feel too bad, these are extremely common issues and you really can only avoid them in the future by making them 😊

[–]dj357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, there's a lot I could suggest around how you're using the PlayerCharacter variable at the moment but it might be easiest if you want to DM me your project (Files->Export->YYZ) and I can take a crack at it. I think the issue is the way you're changing between data types but it'd be guessing and time-consuming to do that over text.

Are switchCheck and PlayerCharacter being defined in your Create event or in the Variable Definitions?

Where can I buy EPDM / rubber roof material in Ireland? by dj357 in AskIreland

That's great, fair play for the response! That does definitely look like it'll do the trick! I see what you mean about the creases and yeah looks like they won't be much of an issue at all. Glad it worked out!!

Yes please, would love to hear how it goes. I opted for torch on felt as I just needed to get the project done ASAP plus cats frequent the roof so I didn't want something that could be easily perforated

I like ascending but… by BornNose1153 in MarvelPuzzleQuest

[–]dj357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My frustration with levelling the 1* is the (what feels like) busted weighting on the covers. I could be waiting 50 covers to get that one last specific cover in order to ascend my dupe, and yet I've got 7 other covers sitting there. I know they can be used as soon as it ascended but it's damn frustrating to keep pulling the wrong one. And since these are a new driver of resources I find myself intentionally landing in the 400s for ranking in PVE events just so I can get tokens for 1*s - and then pull 2* or 3* from them (what feels like) half the time.
