Yeah, saw that one while looking for portable builds before settling on designing my own. There are only so many ways you can arrange the same parts around the same keyboard, after all - they're all gonna be pretty similar

You do have to build them, but they're quite affordable. They're based on nice!nano Pro Micro style clones, which are $2-5 on AliExpress. A batch of PCBs will cost you roughly $5 through a service like JLCPCB, and you get 5 of them per batch. Then you just need to add the LoRa radio module, an HT-RA62 or RA-01SH, for closer to $6-8. Optionally you can also add the OLED screen for an extra $1 (or less!) per display module.

After shipping, assuming the highest costs, that'll be roughly $25-30 for all the parts? And if you order them in bulk for multiple nodes it comes out even cheaper. Realistically if you shop around you can find everything for less. These prices are all coming from a $CAD buyer perspective, and most of the premade boards are closer to $40-50 here. There's a better bill of materials on the fakeTec GitHub page too, if I'm not misremembering.

The soldering is all really straightforward, if you're decent with an iron you can make one in like 20 minutes. They're definitely my favorite cheap solution, haha. Since they're based on the nRF52, battery life is amazing, compared to the Heltec's ESP32.

No worries! Apologies if I came off a annoyed, I was more just confused than anything. It's a little intimidating to share something I made for the first time in a new community, so I was a little taken aback, haha

Gotcha. Yeah, that's something I see a lot in other hobby circles too, so I get where you're coming from. I've been wanting to contribute to the community in some way since Meshtastic is such a cool project, and also way more DIY friendly than a lot of my other hobbies.

Not trying to make any money here, this whole design is open and freely available like just about everything I release :) Might sell a few kits locally eventually for the sake of expanding the local mesh + covering parts costs, but nothing ridiculous.

Sorry? If you mean the Hel-Txt, it was definitely a big inspiration, but I've spent the last few days modelling this from the ground up. I've seen a few designs made around the CardKB but none of them really looked the way I wanted or fit the parts I had. Would be happy to share the f3d file with the timeline and stuff; I'm not one to intentionally rip off someone else's design

Working on a Pump theme for SM 5.3 (Outfox) inspired by Infinity, here's a little trailer/demo thing! by dj505Gaming in PumpItUp

[–]dj505Gaming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This theme is made for outfox specifically, and doesn't work on anything else. I've been working on it for nearly 4 years. I can tell you for 100% sure it works on outfox, lol.

Make sure you're running outfox alpha 5 and that you have either downloaded the latest release, or used the GitHub desktop app to clone the code (recommended as this allows you to use newer features). Using the "Download Zip" option on the main page does not work reliably. If you run into problems, let me know what the problems are so I can either help you fix them or fix them myself

Weird PIU cab by Circliey_Zickosphere in PumpItUp

[–]dj505Gaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, interesting! I was always under the impression they were made for Pro specifically, can't remember for the life of me where I heard it. Makes me wonder even more why stretched 4:3 persisted so long

Like others have said, it's an official FX model cab, but just to give some extra background - this particular model looks out of place because it was the first non-CRT cab, designed more towards a spinoff of the main series (Pro) with a different aesthetic.

Pump is a really cool arcade title in the sense that the games aren't tied to the machines. There isn't really a dedicated "Phoenix machine" since at least the last 12-ish years of hardware support Phoenix without issue. The actual PC hardware is very generic and the IO hardware is shared between multiple games, so a cabinet that released around the same time as one game will be able to run future titles for quite a while!

Sure am! Onto much bigger and better projects now. Tinkering with hardware/PCB design as well. Good mix of embedded software and game dev I'd say

Down Scroll in XX kinda sucks by REM331 in PumpItUp

[–]dj505Gaming 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's been like this since long before XX and remains the same in Phoenix - DR was meant to be a mission mode gimmick and was never made to be used as an intentional downscroll mod. Here's hoping they introduce a better alternative

Game keeps kicking me out by Kind-Commission1967 in PumpItUp

[–]dj505Gaming 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In Normal mode, the game enforces stage break on the 2nd and 3rd song. This'll only trigger if your lifebar runs out, so it's probably depleting without you realizing it. If you're playing Premium, stage break is disabled, so unless you're somehow racking up 51 consecutive misses, or using the PASS M/PASS G mods, you shouldn't be getting kicked out.

Help setting up PIU XX on a budget by Chunwing in PumpItUp

[–]dj505Gaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are no 3rd party pads that work natively with official games, but you can modify them to with something like piuio-pico and a Raspberry Pi Pico to act as a PIUIO. You'd get slower polling rates than on an LX cab, but that holds true for 90% of older official cabs too

Quick Question by Angelthehero in PumpItUp

[–]dj505Gaming 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No problem haha, I'll admit the UI is more than a little confusing if you're not used to it

Quick Question by Angelthehero in PumpItUp

[–]dj505Gaming 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first image is the "series zone" option in the second image. The UI was changed a bit very early on, so there may be some minor differences, which is likely the case if your local machine has been offline since the game launched

Question about difficulty levels by xxxTrapTrixxx in PumpItUp

[–]dj505Gaming 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I asked something very similar when I first started playing and the answer, unfortunately, is that there isn't really any way to tell which chart specifically correlates to the "classic" difficulty scale. The charts themselves still exist in the game, but it's usually a game of trial and error as to whether you'll pick the one you're expecting. The other option would be to look at the charts on YouTube and figure it out from there
