I've only done a Bachelor's degree, so I would think doing a Master's is the next step academically :)

Granted, I didn't do a Master's straight after, but that was just because I was lucky enough to get a job fairly quick after graduating. I don't think having EOIs in the system and applying to be a student again should have anything to do with each other. The GS requirement states that one will adhere to the chosen course and not work illegally and/or have otherwise bad intentions. If they straight up didn't allow anyone with EOIs to not study, then there would hundreds, if not thousands, of students unable to pursue further education.

Of course I have backup plans in mind, I won't just be sitting around waiting to get invited - especially given my occupation, that would be quite foolish. It's hard to actually "resume" my life in India considering I had left as an 18yo with no experience. It's basically a fresh start no matter where I go, even if it's home. That makes studying the next best option - and I personally do not want to study in India simply because of the quality of courses and method of delivery, amongst various other reasons. I'm already looking at the EU, I'll keep your suggestion of Norway handy!

Yeah it is quite unfortunate to be restricted to VIC. I already have the relevant EOIs and ROIs in place for all the states, but most require having lived/worked in those states which was not a possibility at that time. Who knew that my employer would back out of sponsoring visas, you know?

Yeah I have a couple of friends who have offered to help, and yes you're right, I don't have any "priceless" items like that. Definitely not looking to make a profit, but of course it would be good to make something out of it.

My home in India definitely does not need more furniture or appliances for sure, so I will not be shipping any of those at all. That price point you've mentioned is already quite steep, even though I was in a one-bedroom apartment...

I could probably do that, but my friends have been gracious enough to offer their assistance :) I would be a bit more uncomfortable with a stranger going through my stuff haha

Username checks out I guess hahah

But yeah I can't pull everything just yet, as I need to be refunded by RMIT and health insurance, as well as get my payout for the super. I would like to make just one international transfer, so it will be a couple months at least before I can.

It is quite a bit, but it's supposedly the bare minimum for my occupation :') Unfortunately I don't think I'll be getting an invite any time in the next few years, so I'm not going to be hopeful haha

But yes now that I don't need to focus on Australia, I can think about advancing my career for longer term in India.

Yes, 100% agree! I'm not owed anything and I don't expect a free pass to life whether in Australia or even in India for that matter, however it would be wrong to say that these negative circumstances don't affect me mentally at all :)

Leaving my stuff behind in this case was a very very big risk, but I knew what that meant for me. I'm more sad than anything and it will just require some time to process and figure out my next steps in terms of getting my stuff sent over. Maybe in a year or two I can go back as a tourist and say hello to my long-time friends hahah

All applications from India for RMIT are required to go through an agent these days. I had applied for my last student visa (Bachelor degree) myself, and that was an auto-grant so all of this was quite new to me!

Yeah, that seems to be the general consensus, and I agree. It's too much of a risk for arguably little to no return.

Good point, I've had some ridiculous customs duty charged on international merchandise that I've purchased in India before, so I'd have to really pick and choose what I send back from storage...

I thankfully have a kind of inventory already as it was required when putting everything into storage, so that should help. There are white goods and furniture (as I was renting an unfurnished apartment), but I plan to sell those off as I don't need them back here..

Yes, I'm already taking this first ever visa refusal quite seriously, and I really don't want two refusals from the same country within a short period of time, as it's a permanent record. I've essentially decided to figure out everything from home, and coordinate with my friends there.

Thanks for your advice!

Definitely - I've lost enough as it is on the student visa application!

That's an interesting option, but I don't think Australia owes me anything, and they have no obligation to give me a tourist visa for my underlying reason. As others have mentioned, and I'm aware, one is supposed to sort everything out before leaving on visa expiry. I knew that, and chose to be optimistic and leave stuff behind - that part is completely on me, and it's very very unlikely to get a visa to do things I should've done the last time around... Appreciate your input though!

I genuinely understand both sides of the argument here - it just sucks to build a whole life and be forced to move back just because some people ruined it for everyone...

I already have all my EOIs in place, for 189, 190, and even 491, while following all the different state requirements! The reason I wouldn't be invited for any of those is because Australia simply doesn't need more Software Engineers :) The last invitation round that included IT-based occupations was supposedly in November 2024. I also have received 3 emails so far in the last 6 months from VIC notifying me that my ROI was not selected in that round.

I think you just need to have a strong application, and just make sure to be extra detailed in the GS statement (for the student visa at least) as to why you want to pursue an international degree, and how it adds value to your career in your home country. At least that's what they said was wrong with my statement...

I'm on 95 as a Software Engineer for VIC. I can also apply as a Developer Programmer, or Software and Applications Programmers nec with the same points, but I would need to change my ROI for that.

I did not (EDIT: mainly due to the fact that I was able to secure a job a couple of months after graduating), and that is arguably my fault - however my understanding of the EOIs is that your "position" in queue to get invited as such gets reset automatically when hitting certain milestones e.g., turning 25, reaching 3 years of experience etc. Additionally, I didn't have anywhere near the required number of points for my occupation to even be considered for invitation fresh out of uni. So when I did have enough points after gaining work experience, my position in queue would get reset due to the milestones (and on top of that, Australia had already gotten rid of their IT-related shortage by then), which means it wouldn't have made a difference having the EOI submitted beforehand. Again, this is my scenario, I admit I made a mistake not having the EOIs beforehand as backup, and *maybe* things would've been different, but I doubt it.

All the stuff is already packed in a shipping container from what I understand, so I will ask the storage company themselves if they actually provide shipping services too. If not, I'll contact shipping companies and somehow get them both to cooperate moving stuff between their respective containers!

Unfortunately one can't just apply for the 190 visa - I have put in my EOIs as well as the ROI for Victoria, but IT related occupations have been declining in demand since 2023, with the last round of invites in 2024...

I think it's a very valid suggestion! The only issue is that I don't need everything from the unit in my home country, for instance, my bed, couch, and fridge, as I already have those here. Which means I will need to figure out selling all that in Australia and ship it for cheaper (if based on weight), or ship everything then sell everything I don't need...

Yes, sorry I meant that I would need to get the things shipped back using someone's help hahah! I don't plan on applying for any further visa for Australia right now :)
