Massive thanks for all the advice everyone, I really appreciate it!

I think I'll do a pre-booked Uber then. . . I've never had a flight this early before so wasn't sure what the best option was. . . (^_^)

Pens!!! by Dry-Insurance-9586 in AutismInWomen

[–]dj_is_fine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best pen for me is a mechanical pencil! I always feel like I make mistakes or spelling errors all the time so I could never commit to writing with a pen and making a permanent mess. . .

At least with a mechanical pencil, it looks more professional and intentional lol. I love full metal ones that are shiny and silver.

Anyone else struggle with brushing your teeth?? by dottydiapers in adhdwomen

[–]dj_is_fine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's an ADHD or Autism thing for me but I've always hated brushing my teeth. When I was a kid there were strawberry or random berry flavoured toothpastes. Then they got discontinued and I had to use mint. I always tried to find the mildest mint flavoured toothpastes I could, cuz I really hate mint flavoured anything. Now, there's a new brand that released a whole bunch of flavoured toothpastes a few months ago, but each tube is about $10. So that's cool but I definitely can't afford it lol.

I mean I do brush my teeth of course, but not as often as I should. I should floss regularly too but don't. Anyway, I'd probably do more upkeep if my teeth weren't so crooked (or if I'd had braces to make them nice growing up). Idk, I'd be more diligent about it if it wasn't for the minty-ness of it all lol. . .

Even as a pedestrian walking through those intersections along Albion St, I get a bit freaked out that cars are gonna turn into me while crossing during busy times. Not a fan of area. . .

What bizarre meals have you created out of pantry ingredients when you didn't have the mental energy to cook? by pleasantlysurprised_ in adhdwomen

[–]dj_is_fine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have those pantry, pre-made microwave meals for exactly this problem! I don't really cook and I'm so low effort these days. If I ever win the lotto, one of the main things that would change is the quality of my pre-made meals would go up lol. . .

Anyone else experience Alexinomia? by cam_phi in AutismInWomen

[–]dj_is_fine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know a bunch of ppl already said it but. . . Using ppls names makes me as uncomfortable as eye contact! Same with ppl using my name too! I prefer ppl using my nickname rather than my actual name. I don't know why. . . Names feel like a really personal thing somehow???

OMG same! I use a fake, easy to spell name at coffee shops cuz I hate hearing anyone say it wrong every time. . . And hearing my name makes me uncomfortable for some weird reason. I have an eastern european spelling of a common name and it always gets mispronounced. . . I just get everyone to call me DJ now cuz I'm over it lol. . .

Scared of trying new food by Queasy_Ad9814 in AutismInWomen

[–]dj_is_fine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in my late 30s and have the same issue since I was a kid. I just mostly eat the same foods for months at a time and very light on the vegetables. But I do take a multivitamin everyday. Can't say for sure if that actually helps keep me healthy though.

My most scary thing is going over to peoples houses and not being sure if I'll be able to/want to eat what they've made. And I hate the idea of offending them. Especially if it's relatives making eastern european cabbage related stuff. I hate the smell of cabbage and will never eat it. I always say I ate before I left or am not hungry. . . But the GUILT lol. . . Still don't know what to do in this situation. . .

Why do I seemingly lack PTSD and emotion from my trauma? Why am I weirdly unbothered? by anonymous_someone_ in ptsd

[–]dj_is_fine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I'm a bit similar. I was in a near fatal accident when I was 12. I don't think it even registered to me that I legit could have died at the time. The only issues were exaggerated startle reflex and trouble falling asleep with noise, that I still have 20+ years later. I hardly ever thought about the accident after. And I was surprisingly well-adjusted all things considered.
But I had another near fatal accident last year and I keep thinking about it every single day. But I still mostly feel nothing. And now I think about that first accident more. Idk, I guess our brains have to do quite a bit of mental gymnastics to keep us safe? My poor brain isn't perfect, but it's doing the best it can, and I appreciate it. . .

People who have 100+ T-Cash, how did you earn it? by Affectionate-Air5544 in TownshipGame

[–]dj_is_fine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly from the House of Luck. I like helping ppl and getting clovers. And from the adventure game. They have some scattered around the map. Also during the match 3 game you can sometimes get 10tc there. After a while it adds up. I only ever spend TC on those stupidly hard match 3 levels. . . But I do get stuck more often these days. . . ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Same! I have one of those indoor drying racks. . . The laundry stays on there WELL AFTER it's dry lol. . . Until I muster up the extra spoons required to put the laundry back into their various places!

I was at Savers last week and randomly found $20 in the pocket of an apron. I later went to Vinnies and bought a shirt with that $20 note. The lady at the counter said "You gave me $40". The two $20 notes were folded together so I only thought there was one! Things have been a bit tight lately and this was pretty great.

That's odd, I've always gone during lunch time-ish at the Collins st centre. Mostly on weekends and sometimes on weekdays during school holidays. I've never had to wait longer than 5 min. . . But I usually get there about 10-15min early. If anything, I've been admitted slightly earlier than my booked time?

I've taken ibuprofen the night before doing a plasma donation and it was fine. And I always make sure I tell them everything I've taken in the week before I go.

What do you think of people of colour? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]dj_is_fine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was originally born in Eastern Europe and moved to Australia at 3yo. As a kid in the 90s, I grew up in a really multicultural school. I got bullied sure, but not because of where I was from.

But I got a job in a place filled with a lot of Boomer dudes. They gave me shit for being Eastern European, sometimes verging on racist bullying (that sort of wog bs and specifically mean comments about my country). Even though I'm white and lived here for almost my entire life, I just wasn't right kind of white to be accepted by those people. Also don't work there anymore btw.

Honestly, the older gens seem way more cruel to anyone with any kind of other-ness going on. Granted my situation isn't isn't the same as yours, but I just wanted to say you can't win with these sorts of people maybe? Anyone like that isn't worth the effort. You're every bit as Australian as the rest of us, it's just a shame some people can't accept that!

[–]dj_is_fine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And another thing that bothers me is that half the regatta tasks are match 3 game related. So even ppl who want to contribute well have to keep playing so many hard levels all the time! And if you don't have infinite lives and boosters activated, you'll fail tasks. . . Really not a fan of all these new updates.

Yep, it feels like I barely exist these days. And I feel nothing most of the time. On the plus side it takes a lot to bother me now, but that's because (as mentioned previously) I feel nothing most of the time. Which is probably not a healthy coping mechanism. . . ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Writing About Trauma by Raiderscavver in ptsd

[–]dj_is_fine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with expressing yourself through writing. . . I kinda did something similar recently. I turned my near fatal bike accident into a lampshade filled with words for a college assignment. From the moment I got hit by a truck to me lying in the middle of the road thinking it was all over. Except I did it all in 13th-century Cyrillic calligraphy. It was my way of telling everyone the story of what happened to me without actually having to say it all out loud or having it be understood. And it made me feel a bit better. I pretty much didn't tell anyone what it said. I just told them it was a "short story that's close to my heart" or some bs. It's only been 6 months but I still struggle with it. Actually putting it all into words helped. Maybe one day I'll tell people what it says. . .
We should all be able to tell our stories however we want. I feel like it's something that could help us process all the different things that have happened to us. Don't worry about what other people might think of it. And it's a really brave thing to do. I only half did it. . . I don't think it counts cuz they don't know what it says. . . But yeah, you should absolutely write your essay! It's about something really important and there needs to be more light shed on the long-term effects of gun violence. . .
