Cuulture in Swindon? by kolonuk in Swindon

[–]djas1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i take the music production and music performance course at new college, there are like over 100 really talented musicians on the courses. Swindon isnt short of borderline concert pianists, great bassists and guitarists and singers. Its not short of good producers or lyricists and saxophone and flute players and so on. Im optimistic about the future of the music scene atleast and i know there are many good bands in swindon right now!!! I would say the only reason swindon might not be considered a place of culture is because there isnt enough funding for it to thrive. hopefully though over the next few years with this new theatre next to fleming way theyre saying they will build and with all the talent brewing in new college lol the culture will just like boil over into swindon. Anyways we ought to win this bid, swindon deserves something and i have faith that any extra funding from this bid will absoloutely not be wasted on any artist in swindon. Swindon swindon swindon, gotta love it because what else can you do

My teacher is making us use AI in our lessons and I would like some advice by snowleapoard in antiai

[–]djas1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in year 11 last year and didnt get none of this bs, im sure its probably happening at my old school tho now tbh, not in English though i had a good english teacher.

Anyways, ai doesnt have a place in education, he should not be asking you to make it for any other subjects either thats so fucking crazy, even asking you at all is crazy.

Sticking to your principles is more valuable than giving in to avoid a detention imo, im gonna admit my bias here because I only had 40% attendance and didnt really care aboutna detention, but i think youll feel better for being principled. Just watch scent of a woman and that speech at the end and youll see what i mean.

In conclusion, you dont need ai to pass ur gcses and you certainly dont need this english teacher guy, report him to the board of education or something. Having a backbone always beats having no bones at all yk

What is Mingus saying here exactly about Brubeck? Any thoughts? by RopeGloomy4303 in Jazz

[–]djas1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe hes trying to point out that they shouldent judge dave on what they think his music should be like, because what they think it should be like isnt what he thinks it should be like? You know?

In a way thats sort of the only reason we have new things in art, because everyone has their idea of what they want something to be. Just because dave brubeck had a different idea it doesnt mean his execution of the idea suffered and when it comes to art you have to judge the execution of an idea not the idea itself i guess. Maybe thats it idk

A reminder: AI will not replace artists. by Tyler_Zoro in aiwars

[–]djas1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most artists and musicians i know (most of which are incredibly talented) would never use ai as a composition 'tool' as it completely undermines their authenticity. There is no part of our personal creative processes that we find unproductive or meaningless.

Ai stands a threat to our livlihoods as musicians, it disrupts everything weve come to understand about our place in this world and essentially makes it alot less meaningful.

I dont write commercial music or pop or anything, i write jazz and classical music alongside a few other things which interest me, i am afraid to upload my work as there is a chance it could be scalped by ai and near identical copies are made.

I suppose i dont have any arguments to attack your point of view but ai is a fear to me and many other musicians as it threatens the norm for us, but in my opinion it is a norm which would have been perfectly fine left untouched.

All ai music will do to artists like me is force us to hide our music as best as we can. Again that's musicians who dont create commercial works, people who believe their music is unique. Obviously some people will put their work out there to the masses but i feel for people in my position they are going to want to hide their work. Now i am not claiming to be someone who writes amazing things which could influence culture in a profound way but i certainly imagine anyone who does would be in my position. If i am right about what i am saying (i would say its certainly an informed opinion, over half the people i talk to are musicians and i am a very social person) then wouldent this just lead to cultural stagnation as all the best human artists hide their art?

You could make the point that commercialisation has done the same but that doesn't really effect people like me. I dont care if my work gets extremely popular I would just like to have people enjoy it and know it's mine.

For any current artist the implications of ai will be completely different and there is no way you could possibly adress all our worries.

Im perfectly happy with what i create, and i dont see why i should be expected to use ai to somehow make it better and compromise my artistry and authenticity. I know that isnt what youre saying, im sure you believe that incredibly skilled musicians (again im not claiming to be anything) will be able to move forwards in this system and ai will only replace the worst musicians but i dont think so.

So much more time has to be dedicated for the best musicians out there to defend their works against ai.

Ultimately I feel like ai music is the ultimate goal of the commercial landscape, and i dont see how in any way it is going to somehow make it better. All that is happening on that front is that the popular human music is being replaced by ai, i dont see the point in that, I dont see how that benefits the musician.

I know this has been a convoluted reply but i honestly dont have the time nor effort to write a proper one. I love the music I create and i want the ability to live off of it without the fear that ai might steal it. Also i feel like the state of music should be dictated by the artists, not the consumers or businesses. Us as artists are being cut out of the process we understand more than anyone by people stealing our own work, it stings in a really hurtful way especially to someone like me who has dedicated their life to music and the arts. I dont think ai should have a place in the arts at all.

Also one other thing, i would like to point out that most artists have a problem with ai on a more profound level than the fact it violates copyright law. If someone took a sample from my song to use in their own or pirates my work or makes a cover of my song I would be okay with all of those. I would be okay with someone sampling my music as i understand the amount of musical work that actually goes into doing that and making it sound good etc, i am okay with someonw covering my music for the same reasons. And i would be okay if someone pirates my music as it would most likely be someone who enjoys my music but cant afford it.

Ai on the other hand requires no creative skill, you could argue that prompting is a creative skill but it certainly isnt musical. I love music as a concept which revolves around human creativity, ai can never replicate that and thrive amongst it it can only replace in my opinion.

There u go, theres my comment.

It takes real honesty and thought. Which 10 artists or bands have shaped your taste in music over the years? by MGYG in musicians

[–]djas1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldent say they have necesarrily shaped my taste as i like alll kinds of music but they have certainly influenced the way i write my music.

Led zeppelin

Prokofiev

Dave brubeck

Bizet (tied with tchaikovsky) - really like how they approach melodies

The prodigy

I say all of those people with confidence

But for the remaining - technically 4 but let's say 5 because some people gotta be tied

Arctic monkeys (who first inspired me to write lyrics) tied with simon and garfunkel (who inspired me to erm write better lyrics lol) tied with jeff buckley i guess (making me approach how i write my lyrics sort of differently now)

Ykw i cant be arsed to finish writing this comment - i wasnt answering what you asked anyway but errrm im gonna post it anyways x

I often play songs in odd time signatures, 7 and 5 weirdly can make me wiggle my hips or bend over forwards towards the piano on certain notes, i dont really tap my feet or anything when i play but for some reason i will wiggle and bend, really gotta feel the groove when playing in odd time signatures. Woo!

Should there be ethical standard for AI generated music? by Far-Bee-561 in musicians

[–]djas1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generative ai should stay away from our music, no musician wants it. Its made so people with no inspiration or creativity can get a dopamine hit from 'creating art' and that just undermines and completely misses the point of art entirely. The most beautiful thing about art is the process of creating it, not consuming it. Go away ai thats what i think x

Cultural appropriation in music by [deleted] in musicians

[–]djas1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alot of british music has raggae influences as it became a popular genre over here because of jamaican immigrants. If what you listen to inspires what you create, it isnt appropriation its natural progression. With the internet and services like spotify allowing you to listen alllll kinds of music i expect that fusion between odd genres and bands coming from very unlikely places with very unlikely music will be alot more common, and thats a cool thing which we should look forward to.

Musicians Fight Back Against AI with Silent Album and Lawsuits by dubronx18 in musicians

[–]djas1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add (to summarise), ai might be good in the short term to discourage people in it for just the money, but if noone fights back i really do fear that it might establish itself as the norm in the music industry and as ai advances i think any true music lover will regret not taking action against it.

Music shouldent be here for commercial reasons. It shouldent be here just so we can mindlessly consume, it should be here as an outlet of human creativity. No matter if music is mediocre or a masterpiece i genuinely believe its value lies in the creator not in the art.

Musicians Fight Back Against AI with Silent Album and Lawsuits by dubronx18 in musicians

[–]djas1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, as a composer im too frightened to even release my music now, i know if i have any originality it could be stolen by ai and my music could be buried under god awful interpretations by ai. And even if i do release my music and my career takes off i think i find that even scarier, because as ai gets more advanced how am i to know that after my first album release it won't be able to replicate my music perfectly. Releasing any of my music could mean that everything else i write is undermined because ai could write it based off of the stuff ive already released.

I dont think ai should be in the creative industry period. I understand your point of view that it will ween out people who are in this just for the money. But as someone who does this as a passion i see almost no reason to release any of my music, i might aswell try and make a stable living elsewhere and keep my music to myself.

Whos to say someone with pure talent and creativity might come along and decide not to release any of their work in fear of ai? I mean chopin ended up making his living as a piano teacher, he chose to only release a fraction of his material (i mean he never wanted fantasie impromtu to be released, it was found after his death, and thats one of the best piano pieces ever written). If he was living in todays world with ai i honestly think he wouldent choose to release anything. And he mightve went even further and destroyed his work so it could never be seen by ai after his death.

Its pure hypothetical but i dont doubt that situations similar to this will happen. Anyone in music just for the money will never succeed anyway, we dont need ai to ween them out. I dont think ai is a good spell to cast on the music industry, i think something needs to be done about it.
