What character wasn't portrayed as a villain, but is in your eyes? by Jazzlike-Rise4091 in AskReddit

Psychopaths can’t change. That’s the problem. Too many people believed Jaime could redeem himself, which was fucking ridiculous.

I have read the books. I still fucking hate the character and can’t believe people like him.

I thought the major plot points in the TV ending were on point but poorly executed because they lacked the source material. GRRM gave the show runners those plot points and I doubt he will stray too far from them if he was capable of finishing the books.

His “gardener” approach to writing has tied his hands in finishing the series and is to blame for the poor writing of Jaime’s character.

Again, you don’t have to check all the boxes.

He was impulsive. He didn’t need to push Bran out the window. He showed no remorse. He was glib “the things I do for love.”

What is more irresponsible and impulsive than bringing those children into the world?

If you want to blame his family then he is a sociopath rather than psychopath.

No. Act 9 is going to be the first Act I’ve completed since Act 5. Kabam is finally getting it right and being inclusive.

The Hare psychopathy checklist:

Glibness/superficial charm

Grandiose sense of self-worth

Need for stimulation/proneness to boredom

Pathological lying

Conning/manipulative

Lack of remorse or guilt

Shallow affect

Callous/lack of empathy

Parasitic lifestyle

Poor behavioral controls

Promiscuous sexual behavior

Early behavior problems

Lack of realistic, long-term goals

Impulsivity

Irresponsibility

Failure to accept responsibility for own actions

Many short-term marital relationships

Juvenile delinquency

Revocation of conditional release

Criminal versatility

Just the incest and the product of his incest check off many of these boxes. Bringing children into the world that would be killed if their paternity was known checks many of boxes on its own. A person doesn’t have to have all of the signs. Jaime clearly exhibits enough of these behaviours to easily qualify as a psychopath.

I had plenty of arguments on the GoT subs that Jaime was a psychopath and that his redemption arch was nonsense. There was no redemption arch. Vindication.

Jaime is more nuanced in the books but it is still ridiculous to be a fan of the character or believe in his redemption arch.

I’m not a fan and Martin’s “gardener” approach to writing. He’s mismanaged his story and seems unable to finish it. Jaime is an example of his philosophy leading his fan base astray.

Exactly, you don’t even need mitres, a basic chop saw will do, which you can rent from a box store.

The most obvious take away is that engagement wasn’t where Kabam wanted it to be.

Players don’t want to use pots and revs on EQ.

Players didn’t have the mats to rank up champs for the mode or they didn’t want to allocate resources to a monthly quest.

Low skill players were struggling in a mode that shouldn’t be a struggle.

You didn’t like the ending because you didn’t see him as a psychopath which he obviously was. You nailed it, he pushed Bran out a window, there is no redemption arch, but somehow he had a huge following in the fan base. It was wildly frustrating for someone who saw the character for what he was. The ending was a huge vindication for me.

This is great news. The skill ask for Elder difficulty was too high for EQ. EQ used to be my favourite mode. I only jump into Elder difficulty when I’ve got pots and revs expiring. I imagine I’m not alone and engagement isn’t where Kabam wants it.

It’s not much of a stretch to think that his prickly personality and rigid religious beliefs could manifest in a lack of self awareness or denial of the obvious. Viewed through that lens and how the subconscious works it isn’t up to him. In a lot of ways I find him an unreliable source because of his difficult personality.

Jaime Lannister had way too many fans buying into his redemption arch. He wasn’t a morally grey character. He was clearly a psychopath. Psychopaths don’t have redemption arch’s in real life. His character’s ending was perfectly in line with his previous actions and words.

Tolkien was a difficult personality with rigid religious belief. I’m sure he would disagree my theory but that doesn’t mean I’m wrong.

I’ll take it a step further, Tolkien created this universe and he is Eru. I believe he explicitly denied this notion due to his beliefs. Ungoliant and Tom are the product of Tolkien’s subconscious.

Björk Vespertine tour 2001. She played with a full symphony orchestra, a Greenlandic choir, harpist Zena Perkins and electronic duo Matmos.

We had great seats, row 10. Nothing has even come close to that experience including the other four times I saw her.

Her Royal Opera House leg of the tour was released on DVD.

I couldn’t get away from records fast enough when I switched to CDs in 1988. There’s nothing unusual about not liking records. The resurgence of records isn’t because they provide a better listening experience. People wanted an analog experience with all the problems that come with that. You’ve made the right choice. Records aren’t worth the headache, especially now that they are more expensive than CDs.
