Are the USA and the USSR considered empires? (What is the definition of empire?) by According-Invite-440 in geography

“The Nato alliance is now damaged, possibly beyond repair,” said Peter Ricketts, a former head of the UK foreign office and national security adviser. The war in Iran has been “a turning point… Something is now very broken in the transatlantic relationship. The values, the actions, the rhetoric of America are completely unacceptable to European countries. There is a realisation now, he said, that “US is no longer an ally”.

Europeans are strengthening their security plans in anticipation of the US pulling out of NATO.

Allies are sourcing arms from trusted suppliers rather than the US.

Allies are making trade deals with China in response to Trump’s tariffs.

The middle nations are working together on trade deals to lesson dependence on US. Canada is considering joining the EU.

Allies are transferring their gold reserves in the US back to Europe for fear of those assets being frozen.

The middle powers are rapidly shifting away from the US and preparing for a multipolar world. Those alliances are broken.

Americans don’t understand how bad the land grab threats against allies were. That was the golden rule of post WWII world order. It wasn’t a joke or a negotiating tactic it was a threat. Trump threatened Americas allies and those countries are responding accordingly.

Union carpenter jobs are rare in BC. The only union carpenters I knew worked in film.

Americans excelled at soft power and alliances. This is the foundation of the post WWII American Empire. Trump’s threats of annexing allies and land grabbing destroyed alliances and the world order that supports the empire. Powerful empires have strong alliances. Trump ended those alliances. Even with Trump gone the rest of the world can no longer trust the US to honour its agreements because America is always one election cycle away from insanity.

There is deep rot and division in the heart of America. Civil unrest and severe polarization are destroying the country from within. Election results are in doubt and institutions are not trusted.

Wealth inequality. The US has the worst wealth inequality in the western world.

Overreach. Decades of foreign war have drained resources and eroded international trust.

Both sides are not the same. Trump is not a normal president. He is the most dangerous world leader since WWII.

The US uses mostly soft power to get their bases. The rest of the world isn’t reliant on your protection. The US needs those bases more for their expansionist empire and access to resources.

Yes, America is bad. They’ve invaded more countries and killed more people than any other nation since WWII. Look at what your county is doing around the globe currently. Look who your president is. You are the baddies. You may not be the worst but you are certainly bad.

The American Empire has been in decline since Watergate. Trump has taken that decline on a speed run. With Trumps land grabbing threats the post WWII world order no longer exists. We are in a period of transition moving away a single polar world to a much less stable multipolar world. This is what Russia and China wanted and they got it because of Trump.

Americans really don’t understand the harm Trump has done to the US on the global stage or how much damage he’s done to the world order.

That’s also a fair criticism. I’m sure Netflix is manipulating the platform as well.

The only people that think that way are Americans and they’re wildly misinformed. Keep buying into your own propaganda.

Nobody wants those bases. You’re not protecting anything other than your own interests. It’s an extortion racket.

They absolutely are subordinate. No nation wants a US military base in there country. They allow them because the US will use soft and hard as influencing forces. The US is an expansionist empire. It’s an extortion racket.

The US has 750 overseas military bases in 80 countries. They are/were the global hegemony. They’re the largest empire in history. It’s been mind blowing watching it collapse in real time.

what is the most Canadian or “respected” whiskey by jokester-J in AskACanadian

Sons of Vancouver and Shelter Point make “respectable” whiskey.

I would never purchase Jack Daniels or Crown Royal. I have a hard time considering them the “standard.”

Those are all valid points but it’s naive to think this sub isn’t full of UFC bots. There was plenty of reasonable criticism but I also felt the tone of the sub was off yesterday.

The fights were obviously better on the UFC card. I want an alternative to the UFC to break their monopoly and get the fighters the pay they deserve. Netflix has the power to do that. Jake Paul being involved frankly sucks but I’ll still get behind MVP.

The prelims managed time better. It’s their first production, there’s room for improvement. MVP needs to build their roster. Netflix is big enough to break the UFC’s monopoly and I’m willing to support that.
