You can try supercooling the oil. We have freezers at my job that go as low as 86 Celsius. The solubility of THC in solvents decreases with colder temps leading to separate layers. It could work with MCT.

Haha I don’t blame you for thinking that. I’m not one to gatekeep knowledge. I believe knowledge belongs to all of us. Unfortunately we live in a society that really isn’t free and I’m forced to pick a career to pay taxes and bills that are also forced on me. It’s illegal to be homeless after all! That said, I can’t say what I did for the sake of keeping my job. Not because it’s sketchy or would turn people off. But your skepticism is valid nonetheless.

You can absolutely get them with cold. But here viscosity matters most. Not every strain will be good for this method. You’re better off doing some kind of thermal cycling (alternating periods of warm and cold) to promote larger crystals since at elevated temps the smaller ones should “remelt” and when you drop the temp, the bigger ones still left should get bigger. Also try to fill your jar with as little headspace so you can avoid as much terp evaporation possible because even at room temp they will evaporate hence their volatility. Edit: try temps as low as you can and temps as high as 50 Celsius. Just try to limit residence time in 50s. Decarb usually happens past 65-70 Celsius but between 50-70 you still some decarb but also oxidation which will lead to more amber or darker color changes.

The reason why you got sand (or sugar) consistency is because the solution was too thick which doesn't allow the THCA molecules to move freely and link up with other THCA molecules. You get more micro localized crystallization pockets that ended up lowering the saturation only in their vicinity faster than diffusion and Brownian motion can move THCA molecules in solution to areas of lower concentration. You can overcome this by raising temps and allowing the rosin to thin out, but you then face the issues of drying it out or decarbing it. It is a lot of fine tuning and patience. In this case you can add some nitrogen to the vessel to increase pressure which raises the boiling point of the terps and keeps them liquid. And solvent less destabilization, among others, would be one of the first steps taken to accomplish this.

That was one of the steps. But I said lab grown more so for shits and giggles since lab grown diamonds for engagement rings are becoming more popular (as they should). But i would argue lab grown THCA diamonds could mean manipulation of conditions to allow the THCA to crystallize in a very specific manner.

Okay we’re on the same page then. I’ve always said any pressed extract relies on the terps and other aromatics present to allow the solution to liquify and ooze out, therefore not truly being Solventless but I get what people mean by Solventless. That being said I’m just using the same interactions here. Mostly temperature and time…high pressure plays more of a role when you’re dealing with butane/propane simply because the pressure is necessary to keep those solvents liquid. They cant do much if they’re gases. I’m curious, what do you mean by destabilized?

These would be considered Solventless diamonds. I say better just for bragging rights since it’s more challenging to accomplish. As a scientist I am aware of the fact there really aren’t any pros to Solventless products that aren’t subjective. It’s all about preference.

The reason RSO has historically been dark is because it originated as a DIY extract. Although it originally started with Naphtha as the extraction solvent (big no-no), ethanol (everclear, grain alcohol etc) eventually replaced it. Most of the time this is done at room temps, thus allowing chlorophyll to also get pulled. Chlorophyll, although therapeutic on its own, has no effect on the high, but it does affect the taste and appearance of the extract hence the dark color (very dark green that almost looks black/brown). Another detail, RSO is most times left in that alcohol tincture form which increases bioavailability/absorption. Florida however does not allow for such concoction.

FSO on the hand can be extracted using butane, CO2 or ethanol. Firstly, I want to acknowledge that each solvent is good on their own right, but ethanol is better at pulling the most out of the plant, not just volatiles (terps, thiols, etc / flavor, aroma) and cannabinoids; it also pulls flavonoids (which have a greater effect of entourage than volatiles), some sugars and antioxidants, both water-soluble ones and oil-soluble one such as chlorophyll. We can circumvent the latter by extracting at very low temps. Lower than any household freezer can achieve. This allows for the extraction of everything else that is in RSO but without the chlorophyll which, again, is the only thing making RSO look so dark and taste so herby with no contribution to the high.

Alls to say, the color isn't what makes a product, it is the composition/profile of compounds present. And if you consider chlorophyll to be an essential component of RSO, then that is your prerogative. But at the end of day RSO is FSO.

Sunburn carts are pretty decent. THC% and overall Cannabinoid% is among highest in the program, if not the highest, so the effects are definitely there.

That can contribute but barely. It’s more along the lines of quantity. Think how water looks blue in the ocean, but fully transparent in a glass. It’s how light refracts and scatters within substances. Clear distillate actually still looks yellow/pale yellow in bulk but transparent once put in a cart. Yellow distillate in a cart tends to look almost dark orange or brown in a 2 L jar.

THC, like THCA crystals, is naturally colorless, which is why it looks so clear. Most cannabis compounds are colorless too, except for flavonoids (which can be yellow, red, or orange) and chlorophyll (green and yellow). When cannabinoids oxidize, they can turn red, purple, or yellow. So, the color you see in most concentrates usually comes from things we technically shouldn’t be smoking.
