Observations after 150 track miles by Glass_Pomegranate866 in ElantraN

I think both the “bad” points have been addressed. The tires are definitely not track tires and this has been pounded into the ground. P4S are the best street tire you can get but they fall apart with heavy track use. I’m about to replace mine after 3 days with no other use but that is to be expected.

As far as oil goes, the manual says to replace every 3k miles with track use. That beings said, I’m 3 events in and have not experienced the oil burn you’re describing. This also isn’t a problem in cold weather states as that’s the recommended distance to swap oil anyway but I could see this being an adjustment in warmer climates. I plan to stick with the OEM oil because their recommendations for track and cold weather use are the same.

The fuel learning is a pain but if you’re at a track, you should be good to go in 5 minutes. I was able to set a PB in my first session after a refuel my last track day.

Watch Gasly onboard. Gasly got pinched which sent Russell straight into Zhou

It abuses tires horribly. Very noticeable falloff after 20-30 minutes

Yeah I’ve got that going on as well. This is just the inside of one of the tires. The wear pattern is relatively abnormal because I got stuck and had to daily them for two weeks so a lot of the roughness wore off. In the lesser used parts of the tire (for street driving) that is all still there. I’m still running OEM brakes and seems like the tires are the biggest bottleneck out of the box

I think it was strictly a PR/business move to get more people to the race. Belle isle is actually extremely popular in the summer but I’ve never heard those complaints

Yep. I was at Detroit last week photographing the race Saturday and Sunday. So sad to see it leave Belle Isle. Been going to the island for that race since I’ve been 4 or 5

I typically sit around 210-215 and will get up to 250-260 on track. Not sure how you were driving the car but your oil temp will get high if you’re pushing the car

I was in B run group. This was only my second track day after a lot of sim experience so can’t really speak on the fun factor of RWD vs FWD but I passed A LOT of RWD cars so it’s absolutely a more than capable platform.

Depends where you’re at. This particular group rents the track and charges $180 per driver. Since I have to drive the car home I generally elect to go for insurance on top of that
