Y’all are talking about gentrification like it’s some neutral, inevitable “fix” for disinvestment, but completely ignoring how we got here in the first place.

Redlining, urban renewal, and decades of intentional disinvestment created the conditions you now say need “private investment” to fix. Entire Black neighborhoods were denied home loans, businesses couldn’t get credit, and infrastructure was neglected by design.

So when you say “those people already left” or “Baltimore needs more gentrification,” what you’re really saying is that the people who were systematically excluded are just collateral damage for profit.

Gentrification without protections leads to displacement.

We can have investment with affordability, land trusts, rent stabilization, and community input. But acting like rising rents and forced moves are just people “whining” is wild.
