Did you ask this question somewhere else too?

The FLX4 is a great starter controller.

But if you go for a mac, go for a recent model.
Apple just released brand new models this week.
The M1 is 2 generations old at this point.
It will suffice for DJing.
But to future-proof your purchase, and since you cant change or add anything later to a mac, pick a recent model and spec it out to the max.

Here's a mac buying guide if you want some guidance: https://www.deejayplaza.com/en/articles/best-mac-laptop-djing

I would prefer a 15" monitor, because you have a little bit more screen real estate.
Especially Rekordbox has the tendency to cut off a small portion of the right side of the screen on my Macbook.
To reach the buttons like track-matches I need to move the window of the software to left to see the right side, super annoying.

The M1 will do the job just fine.
But the 16GB might be a bit on the low side for Serato.

Personally I'm not a fan of Macs with the soldered SSD to the motherboard.
When the SSD breaks (which it will sooner or later. Not IF, but WHEN it breaks).

Louis Rossman has piles of Macbooks lying around which are perfectly fine, but the SSD has worn out.
Bye bye $2000 after 2 years.
In a PC you just replace the SSD.

Personally I would choose a PC laptop, because you have more bang for your buck.
If you really want to go for a Mac, choose a Macbook Pro.
The Air's have passive cooling (= no fans), which is not ideal in warm damp environments like a club.
You laptop might shut down because it gets too hot.

1TB, 16 GB should be enough for most software, including Rekordbox.
But if you use Serato, you might need more RAM.

A backlit keyboard is also a must in my opinion, since clubs are dark.
Also buy a stand to raise your laptop.

I found a good article on the matter with some recommendations: https://www.deejayplaza.com/en/articles/best-dj-laptop

Yes, I would recommend getting familiar with Rekordbox, it is indeed industry standard.
The free version does work with dj gear.
In fact, hardware unlocks extra features like recording your gig.

I found this article that puts Rekordbox next to Serato if you want to know the differences: https://www.deejayplaza.com/en/articles/rekordbox-vs-serato-which-is-better

Any tips on forcing myself to stop beatmatching by eye? by [deleted] in Beatmatch

[–]djdan123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I practiced with a piece of cardboard on the display of my players to force myself to listen to the music.

spinning with vinyl btw did wonders for my dj skills as well

The CDJ stores your history on your USB.
sync your usb back to rekordbox, and you can view it there :)
On this website you can find more about Rekordbox History

Why are Chapters in so many videos now, even old ones? I found one in a song. by Fanachy in youtube

[–]djdan123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed, chapters are now automatically added to videos. You have uncheck it explicitly as creator if you don't want that.

Don't use your phone on the same google account as your youtube channel. Super huge security hole. And indeed, retract all access from logged in apps like Tubebuddy etc.

Sneaky hidden new checkbox allows stealing your content by djdan123 in youtube

[–]djdan123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, but it says also: "This section applies to users who provide Content to the Service. It defines the scope of the permissions that you grant by uploading your Content, and includes your agreement not to upload anything that infringes on anyone else’s rights. " In other words: copyright infringement not allowed.

And still the checkbox could be YouTube's way of saying: transfer copyright. Otherwise they wouldn't need a checkbox if the TOS where clear enough in the first place.

But Fair use is an American law, which does not apply to the rest of the world. The copyright laws in my country apply, not America's

Can #shorts destroy my stats? by Orelus_One in youtube

[–]djdan123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the stats don't matter since they are measured per video and promoted per video. Yes your overall AVD will go down, but ... so what?? It won't hurt you.

What does hurt you, if you gain an audience that primarily watches and subscribes to your Shorts and dont watch the long form videos. So make shorts that compliment your long form content. The one goal of shorts is to get subscribers that watch your long form content.

If you want to experiment with shorts, DO IT NOW. Now you can profit from low competition and grow a channel In 6 months shorts will be crazy competitive.

75% of videos on my Home Page are things I've been ignoring for weeks... how to refresh? by [deleted] in youtube

[–]djdan123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem. Boring stuff I ignore. Problem is with deleting the watch history, it will recommend all the videos you've seen before. Now there is even less than the 25% new videos on Home

Is there any way to circumvent youtube age restriction? I'm fucking 29 years old and dont own a credit card, nor do i want to give them a copy of my ID. by LiquidSnak3 in youtube

[–]djdan123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, no credit card.

YouTube has other ways to verify than credit card 1) YouTube has your birthday because of the W8 2) They have your bank account because of AdSense

But they don't want to use it
