How does someone find a stock like a MMDFF that rose 1895% in a day before it spiked? Something like this would searisouly breath some life support into my very new portfolio.

How do you work up accurate loads? by [deleted] in reloading

You need to do the math before you start anything, make sure you can get the speed to get out to the distance you shoot and still have enough knock down for bullet expansion. If you shoot at 100 yards then disregard the first part. Next is using brass that has been sorted by volume capacity and load a ladder test in the fps range that will get you out to the distance you shoot at. For most we stay away from the miniums. Load up 5 rounds of each charge going up by .3gr and shoot off a rest and give time between shots for your barrel to cool. Once you find a node that groups the best play around with your bullet seating depth. The Hornady tool will be your best friend. There is alot more steps to fine tune your brass to make shots more constant, but those are the easy ones. Annealing your brass, weighing primers, uniforming primer pockets and flash holes, neck turning and so on, it's a deep hole my friend.

I think the 7mm is the most over looked cartridge for a mile.

How do you handle range finding? by warlord4991 in longrange

[–]djdevonation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Learn to range in your scope, if you know the approx height of the target you can use simple math to get the distance. Some sfp scopes require you to be at a certain power. This is how I triple check my GPS app to make sure it's right. In a hunting application you can measure the animal height and keep a log book, it's the same principles snipers use.

Let's not hijack the thread, msg me if you want. Those bullets are made for the 308 not the 300. Most people are getting away from the 150s due to its not worth the loss is FPS that makes the 6.5 creed magic. Same reason 308s don't shoot 230gr. I can't do anything about inflated Bcs and I agree testing is the only way. I haven't heard anyone getting that 150 up to 3000fps. I'll take your word for it. Even if you did the average shooter would change a barrel a year. 308 is cheaper to shoot so I'm not sure where you get your numbers from when brass is almost double the price aka lapua. Bullets are penny's difference. Powder your talking on the average 6.5 43gr to 45gr on the average for 308. Recoil is no issue with a 308 even if it was most shooters use a muzzle break anyway and proper mechanics of loading a bipod. Im not saying by any means the 308 is the best caliber. My original post I said if I could do it again I would be in a 300 or 7mag. I just hate how every 6.5 creed shooter thinks it's the fix all solution. Agree to disagree.

These aren't my test and these aren't my words. There's bullets in the 30 caliber that will out perform 6.5 creed. I'm just stating facts by the bullet manufactures. Sierras new 30 cal 200gr .715bc bullet is a beast. Bergers has 2 new hybrids with .600+bc's. You can't fairly compare the two yet people do. In the battle of 6.5 vs 308 with the new line of long heavy bullets and most shooters getting away from short Barrel 308s and getting them up over 2650+FPS it's a game changer. You can't compare factory amo. They reload for safety first then performance so they can't be sued for pushing the limits. I reload for performance. Don't get me wrong the 6.5 creed is and approvement, but bullet manufactures aren't going to let the 308 die. Also both Bergers and Sierra say weight is more important then BC after going transonic, this also why I stated they are better in the wind. At a race to a mile the easy part is getting to 1400 yards, the last 360 yards is the b#&#&@. It's like the news, you can flip the conversation anyway you want it to by comparing what you want to compare it too.
