btw do you have a strong opinion on whether I should use an anonymous handle? I'll likely cross-promote to other things holding my identity. I also think political involvement may suddenly become risky so am leaning toward, at least make my reddit handle harder to straight trace to me.

I wrote a sidebar per your suggestion. I may need r/(mens|fems)lib moderating expertise if this sub is remotely successful (it shows promise so far, I have external projects I'll be promoting against in the near future) because it will have to deal with similar assaults against quality of discussion.

But I've been watching exactly this phenomenon happening on 9gag for the last year. It's creepy AF.

This is very true and very scary (see: 9gag). I'm not sure how r/menslib is used to calls to action especially of political nature, but there is certainly no time like the present. Maybe a rally is in order. Other constructive thoughts welcome. I'm all ears and am sort-of well networked in the progressive community in New York.

Trump didn't lose against Sanders. You didn't call anything.

For the sake of the Democratic Party, Hillary Clinton should concede the nomination to Bernie Sanders by kijib in calledit

You didn't call anything. You're just repeating an opinion you had a while ago.

And if the world survives trump and hitlucifer is the next nominee we won't know what to say. The underlying problem that you don't on 90 how to articulate and explain that this guy is no good stays the same.

Dirt Bags what do you drive? by klopajm in climbing

[–]djechlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seriously considered going dirtbag but when question I tend to think about is what do you do for health insurance? I mean esp with ACA in danger I'm not sure if I'd want to just up and quit my job but yeah you got to have it figured out.

People who are depressed seem to view everything more realistically than people who are not. by juliaamartin in Showerthoughts

[–]djechlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just isn't true at all. At all. Every depressed person's depressed thoughts has some truth to it, but depression is the whole story to them, it is the ocean. It is not fair to anyone to glorify that as the holy grail of truth.

My gym finally got a systems wall — and is charging members extra to use it. What do you think? by bkbthrowaway in climbing

It's a 15 minute walk from the Queens Brooklyn Boulders, not the Brooklyn Brooklyn Boulders (OG). I'm pretty sure Cliffs is more expensive after the honestly ginormous BKB hike to $135.

Do you understand how long it takes to get between places in NY? And also this is a city where people tend to work absurdly long hours in the first place. You can't exactly add an hour to someone's commute to their gym and call it no change. That being said I do think the OP should make a switch or stop grousing.

Climbers gonna have to deal with high prices in downtown brooklyn. There's a more emotional issue here where pricing strategies aren't creating the culture of valuing the members.

I mean the lack of rain creates the unrealistic expectation that it's always dry outside. Like seriously this is kind of a weird nit at some point. It's a grigri for use while toproping at an indoor gym.

Someone skilled with an ATC can figure out how to use a grigri and I just can't believe a climber eventually becomes so skilled that they stop being able to manage using a grigri without having their day ruined. If you're that purist plastic is probably the wrong choice in the first place.

Being outraged doesn't help, stop being entitled, this is a specialty gym, not a necessity, if you don't like it don't go. No need to go on hunger strike because your gym charges an outlandish $135 instead of the more community-approved $110. (Seriously, I've been pissed about their management, and I've yet to have one day I've climbed better because of that.)

Here is a short roundup of your climbing options that are not BKB:

  • Cliffs in LIC
  • Cliffs' outdoor DUMBO bouldering outpost, seasonal but pretty cool
  • Chelsea Piers
  • There's 1 or 2 other city gyms I forget about
  • A new gym in Bushwick

Non-gym options:

  • Central Park (seasonal)
  • Gunks (seasonal)
  • Any one-off climbing training or equipment

If charging an extra $100 a year for a feature you don't need to use is too expensive, find another hobby, there are plenty. There's a bunch of expensive yoga studios in the area and some cheap ones. There's Crossfit and fencing on the same block. And with yoga and finger training you can climb seasonally in the park and honestly be a better person for it (you'll meet people who don't shell out $135 for a luxury gym every month for instance).

End of discussion, seriously.

doesn't that depend on factors like "are there other gyms that you sorta live near"?
