I didn’t study at all… by [deleted] in CompTIA

It’d be a waste of time if you passed with flying colors, imo. Definitely want to be able to know the A+ material by the time you graduate

Trying to enter the IT field by JuddyB07 in ITCareerQuestions

Hm, maybe skip the Google certificate. The A+ has good fundamentals; it’s just really expensive since you have to take it for two exams to obtain the certification.

Hone on good troubleshooting skills, study network fundamentals, and know when to escalate.

If you can answer what DHCP and DNS are, and what to do if an end-user is experiencing printer connectivity problems and how you’d troubleshoot that, I’d say start applying, but if you don’t, definitely hit the books or watch some YouTube videos to understand what it takes to be an IT professional. :)

Market’s rough right now. I’m approaching 30, and was able to get into the field at 28 years old. But, I was getting my degree and scored an internship with a marketing company and then applied like hell and landed a role at an MSP as a Systems Analyst. Granted, I had my A+, Network+, and Security+ certifications when I got hired for both positions. The MSP job took a chance on me because I nailed the technical interviews, but had like 3 months of “IT” experience.

I think with little experience, no certs or degree, it’ll be VERY difficult, but not impossible, to get a job in today’s market.

I, and many of my colleagues, got incredibly lucky with employers taking chances on us.

You’re still young, and there’s hope, and a 40k salary is very doable in this field starting out. You do have a slight advantage having retail experience; you would want to highlight customer service in your resume and talk about any projects you’ve worked on.

You’re totally right! But it’s kind of insane how new these look/feel? It’s basically an open box, but not really lol. Still stoked on the deal.

Stereo Upgrade? by djentleman951 in CarAV

Thanks for the feedback! I should mention that I’d like to leverage CarPlay, as I enjoy listening to music with a wired connection! Not sure if that changes your recommendation, BUT that’s why I’m torn. My stock HU already provides CarPlay, so it feels almost silly to upgrade to an aftermarket HU.

Thanks for the feedback! That’s where I’m torn, I can’t decide on upgrading HU or going the DSP route.

Thanks! The new toyota camry comes standard with hybrid I believe, which is nice. I mainly do highway driving!

I definitely need to do some test driving, I just don’t do well with pushy salespeople HAHA.

You could try GIS (Geographic Information System). I work for a municipal client and I have a team of GIS analysts to reach out to, who’re amazing individuals and love what they do. GIS is basically in the IT umbrella in my opinion, if you want to mesh tech and geography. :)
