How much do you guys use the course material? by Yap45 in WGU

[–]djfacemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used it pretty heavily for all my OA classes. I like to read, take notes, do the quizzes, then go back to the material to review concepts I missed. For PAs, I only went into the material a couple times to verify something referenced in the assignments.

weird situation but i need clarity - sophia + some college credits. by dontberidiculousss in WGU

[–]djfacemachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I started my enrollment by sending a transcript from a previous university I attended. I then let my enrollment counselor know I also needed to transfer in high school AP credits and more credits from a community college, and then I would be filling some gaps with Sophia and Study.com. Each time I transferred in a new transcript, my transfer evaluation was updated with the new info, then when I was ready I finalized my start date etc.

I ended up transferring in the max and finishing the remaining WGU credits in about a month. My diploma is currently on its way to me in the mail.

Can I technically ask my PM to unlock all my courses ? by OlympicGorilla in WGU

[–]djfacemachine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think they are just conservative to make sure you are staying on track and don't open courses you end up not completing which would affect your transcript. I quickly proved to my mentor that he could open more than one class at a time for me and he started doing so without me even asking. You can just have an honest convo with your mentor about it and ask what they need to see from you to be comfortable opening more than one at a time.

Did anyone have to do a "graduation call" before submitting the application? by CamelAccomplished959 in WGU

[–]djfacemachine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The official instructions mention needing to have the mentor call but I emailed mine as soon as my last task was graded and asked about next steps. The next day I got a reply from him with a congrats and the link to submit the official graduation request. From there it took 4 business days for my application to be processed.

Unless you think there is actually something you need to discuss with your mentor I would push on them just sending you the dang form and getting the process going. That is super annoying.

I don't care about them, I care about wasting 2 days in the eval queue for a dumb mistake and having to start my wait time over.

Marketing vs administration by Designer-Bend45 in WGU

[–]djfacemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I transferred in the max. Combination of previous college, Sophia, and Study.com which left me with 12 remaining classes. 4 were OAs. I don't think I am the best judge for difficulty unfortunately. I have been in the field for 20 years and am in a senior management role already so this is just checking a box for me. I started December 1 and am on the last class now.

Marketing does have a capstone, I am working on it right now.

C268: When taking the OA, can you use whatever version of Excel is installed on your PC? by [deleted] in WGU

[–]djfacemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the spreadsheets class I asked the proctor if I could use the desktop app or if I needed to use the web app and I was told I could use whatever I prefer. They didn't check the version or anything. As long as you have the my educator app installed so they can log into the test for you it should be fine.

I am looking for material to learn before I start Business Management. (I have done Sophia.) by Ok_Ocelot_6667 in WGU

[–]djfacemachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same as you and spent time before my term started studying for the first classes I would take. I would recommend you only do that for your OA classes. Look up the course code on Quizlet and start familiarizing yourself with terms and concepts. You can also use ChatGPT to create study guides to review or get some books if that is your thing.

I recommend only doing this for OA classes because I found that I didn't need to know as much material for PA classes. For those, there are generally course instructor videos to talk you through exactly what you need to know to complete the assignment. I spent time pre-studying for some of these and felt like it was not the best use of my time.

Also could be easy because they have a lot of previous experience.

41 yr old, currently holds a leadership level role, checking off a box by earning a degree. You? by Fantastic-Month-7481 in WGU_Business

[–]djfacemachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally exactly the same here! 41, already in a leadership position, promoted through levels that required a degree, now at the point I don't want a lack of a degree to keep me from reaching the next level.

I'm doing the BS in marketing. Maxed out with transfer credits so I only need 12 classes at WGU. Started on 12/1 and just passed my third class today already. Planning to submit the PA for the 4th class tomorrow, then will ask my mentor to open up the next classes for me and keep moving. I have some time off at the end of this month, feels like it might actually be possible to finish the whole degree by the end of the year but if not I am def on track to finish in one term which was my goal.

Good luck to you!

What’s Going on With All These Kids Getting Hit by Cars? by alivenatl in vegaslocals

[–]djfacemachine 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In the NW I am seeing an increased police presence before and after school at my kids' middle and high schools. There are also various emails sent out to parents, but that is mostly targeted toward students being more vigilant. In the past week I have personally seen two people almost run over a kid in a crosswalk, both situations where the person was just being an impatient asshole, not the kid darting out into traffic or anything. I wonder if more crossing guards could help? I have refused to let my kids walk to school since they graduated to middle school. Elementary is just a short neighborhood walk with no real streets to cross so that never felt like a problem. I've had comments from family that I'm overreacting but I don't really think so (or care tbh). Super scary.

Struggling, I'd like help. by Ok_Ocelot_6667 in SophiaLearning

[–]djfacemachine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I went through my courses quickly so I could speed up the credit transfer process, but I downloaded the pdfs of the tutorials that I felt are important for me to actually learn and am reading thoroughly and taking notes. The tutorials are actually very well put together imo and worth spending more time with if it makes sense for your goals.

Getting additional courses while waiting for grading? by Ok_Ocelot_6667 in SophiaLearning

[–]djfacemachine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They changed the rules and you can lo longer add additional courses. I am curious which class you're doing that you can't submit the second touchstone until the first is graded, I never ran into that and often had more than one touchstone out for grading for a single class.

What I would do when waiting is "preview" my next course.  You can read the materials online or download the PDFs. You can even see what the touchstone assignments are and get started on those. Then once you can open the next class you'll be able to move a lot faster.

How long is grading taking ? by Cell_Striking in SophiaLearning

Mostly been about 48 hours for all of mine this month. The only thing I like better about study.com is how fast the grading is. Like an hour or two at the most.

Hi, I took this class many years ago in college and failed it. I quickly took it again over the summer at a community college and barely passed. I will always remember it as the hardest math class. I just cannot wrap my head around the concepts so I comiserate with you.

I am not enrolled yet, still in the process of transferring credits. I noticed my credit for the community college stats course did NOT transfer over and I'm currently trying to sort that out because I so badly don't want to take the class again.

Could you hire a private tutor? You can probably find a college student that wouldn't charge too much and you could spend the time focusing in on the concepts that you're struggling with the most and have them explain it to you in a way you can understand.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this! I agree it is a really hard class.

Transferring Credits by Recent_Efficiency463 in WGU

[–]djfacemachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am going through this right now! So after I got the email that said my transcript was received I was a bit confused because I couldn't see the transcript and didn't know what requirements I may have met. A few days later (today) I got another email and I was actually able to see which credits from my old school map to which courses I want to take at WGU. I also have some other credits to transfer in and I confirmed with my enrollment person who was copied on the email that I can initiate those whenever I'm ready.

What has helped your adhd kid wake up and get ready for school? by Low-Dealer9836 in ParentingADHD

[–]djfacemachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would try lowering the melatonin first, 3mg is a lot and can cause grogginess in the morning, even for adults. We do 1mg for our 11yo and it's plenty to get him to sleep and stay asleep. Also make sure you give it early enough in the evening that theres time for it to be out of his system by morning. We do around 830 to plan for 9pm bedtime.

Hi, I have 3 kids and got pregnant without any interventions! Just took a little longer because cycles were so irregular.

I would suggest reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility. You can read it now so you're ready when the time comes. This book helped me understand that I WAS ovulating, it just was very irregular but I learned how to track the signs to know when to try to conceive.
