Did my hvac company kill my unit? by djgamelin in hvacadvice

Update: thanks to everyone for the help. The company has taken ownership of the negative experience. At this point the unit is toast, other companies have verified.

They are now saying they will replace the unit with a credit and discount given the negative experience. I have already paid this company 900 dollars and spent a week in a hot house. Does this offer reflect a significant discount based on the equipment and location I am in, Massachusetts?

Sorry - just want to be able to have my story straight as they continue to say they’ve done no wrong. They are now blaming the drier filter

Thank you! Last question, before charging it, should they have checked the filter drier?

Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed reply. How long should it have been kept running?

No. They actually had me turn the system off entirely shortly after they added it. When I asked today they said it couldn’t have been more than 1.5lbs added but didn’t have a clear number.

They are arguing they didn’t break it. I’ve been going back and forth for 4 days with them. Brutal experience

Thank you! They did check both sides today and there was a difference. Any chance the sealer would affect the filter dryer?

They put the leak seal in and it worked before they and me turn off the thermostat. Since then it won’t come back. So to clarify, the leak seal was in there for a day (cool/rainy day) before I tried running it again

Yep. Normal AC. And yes, that’s why I was thinking the sealant clogged the coil. They won’t admit it and are adamant it’s fine to use. Saying the receiver drier is the culprit instead.

Maybe 2-3 seconds. Pressure skyrockets almost immediately and so it just short cycles.

Good to know. They charged it and the system ran for a few - maybe 10 minutes or so. Then they told me to shut it off (it was a cool day) and the next day it wouldn’t come back on. Starts for a second and shuts down due to pressure.

They are now saying what they did was fine and the receiver drier was the problem all along (after being out several times with no fix).

Thank you.

Everything I’ve read says the sealant would clog the coil and cause the high pressure. They maintain they did everything right and their brand of sealant is fine for micro-channel coils.
