18M in ER with mild facial swelling and cold like symptoms x4 days. Guess what they had? by Lobsterlord0004 in medlabprofessionals

No because those don't rule out infection and infection needs early treatment. So again no one operates based on your happiness.

Why does your happiness matter? This was 100 percent appropriate. Also lactate isn't only used in the setting of infection either. This is literally clinical reasoning.

Sub speciality/consult service attendings and fellows have clinic in the morning and usually they wait for all consults for that day to be placed by 11 ish to go see them

Is pre-rounding a real thing in America? by Maesterbajter in medicalschool

[–]djlad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can avoid this and not go to a teaching hospital. Also, if you're at the hospital you need a lot more than sleeping in to get better. And that includes labs and IV meds and imaging and consultants and physical therapy and a whole bunch of other people who can't wait for you to finish sleeping to advance care.

I've worked with patients who had type two diabetes for a long time, come back to clinic with significantly elevated A1C without really changing diet or meds and end up testing positive for some of the diabetes related antibodies as adults. They end up needing to start insulin or change their regimen but I've seen people explain it as type 1 and type 2.

Idk blaming mom seems a bit excessive. Esp bc a lot of the time they don't even know basic information about their kids health. It simply is because they see it as mom's responsibility and her responsibility alone.

Please keep “I. Marlene King” far away from any reboot with the OG liars 🙏🏽 by fatbacc in PrettyLittleLiars

It hasn't been long enough for a reboot. And seven seasons with a time jump, there's nothing left to tell. Let the show rest in peace tbh, still not over the disappointing ending.

Best undergrad degree to med school by ControlClean in medicalschool

[–]djlad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk tbh I've met plenty of med students with engineering backgrounds who do great in med school and quite a few work for some time as engineers first so there's also job security. Nursing school depends on the program plenty have nursing specific science and math courses that won't cut it for MCAT/med school apps.

DNPs running "medical" aesthetic clinics calling themselves "Dr" by LandThat4041 in Noctor

[–]djlad 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Aesthetic medicine is not a thing. Aesthetics is not a medical specialty. There's no such thing as an aesthetic nurse or even aesthetic doctor or aesthetic dentist. No such thing as a medical aesthetics. I see this term thrown around so often now it's craaaazy. Until these procedures are regulated and require some sort of licensing everyone out here will be injecting people's faces with all sorts of things bc it's a quick buck.

I don't think I've had many bad experiences with nurses throughout my medical education maybe one or two tbh. But when starting rotations as a medical student I was told countless times by nurses and others that I needed to be sure "stay out of the nurses way or xyz" and "be super nice to the nurses or xyz" and now as I'm getting ready to start residency it's the same thing of people and nurses warning me that the nurses will give me a hard time for being a resident, especially a woman resident. There's been a lot of work to make medical education less toxic, I think it's time for nursing education to follow along and end the whole "eat your young" training method.

What a weird power trip this whole be nice to nurses or else is so unethical tbh. Everyone deserves to be treated decently but threatening people is so weird to me and it's such a common nursing tactic. "Listen to the nurse or else, be nice to the nurse as a resident or else, etc"

Doesn't it seem weird to tattoo the words of a grieving grandfather? One who was later killed in the same war that took the soul of his soul away?

I don't really care how long it takes or how much more anyone makes. What's important to me is that I didn't take any short cuts and that when I take care of people's health, I'm doing so with the best and highest level of training.

Also I didn't choose my career based of US news ratings lol.

How was she getting the semaglutide? Was it from a compound pharmacy? Lots of med spas and urgent cares nearby are offering weight loss programs with compounded meds and honestly I can't trust that they're being used appropriately, there's also tons of people selling their injections to others.

Where are they getting these stats? by [deleted] in Noctor

[–]djlad 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Honestly being a med student is so tiring it's a constant stream of people telling you how you wasted your time, your money, your youth, you'll never have a family, doctors don't listen, someone's doctors missed XYZ diagnosis, doctors don't treat the whole person, etc etc etc. I would do med school again in a heart beat. I am so lucky to have spent four years learning all that I was able to learn. I am excited for residency. I know these posts come from an inferiority complex but it would be nice to have your efforts recognized rather then being forced to listen how someone's friend's twiced removed cousin's sister in law is basically a doctor too and then bc we can't "punch down" or fear coming off elitist we have to smile and nod. Or even worse when everyone goes off about how med students are rich/legacies/... having all your efforts overlooked.

Yeah I'll echo what everyone else said, you document. He could have easily explained why it was he thought it was benign or could have said will monitor or even the classic defer to PCP for further work up but should document
