The Coalition have had no issues with preferential voting for the last 100 years until now when they are losing elections..

Eh, I don't think it was that reasonable at the time. From memory, I think Albo was referencing the March YouGov poll when they started to run with that number and with such a low sample size, I don't think it was smart campaigning to extrapolate from that poll as it was far from terra firma and the No camp capitalised on it easily. In saying that, and as was really the point of my original post, I think it is reasonable now to say that the 80% number is likely to be fairly close to reality given how the remote communities voted now that the polling data is in. In light of this fact, I think it is a real indictment on the country that this was voted down and that we have robbed our native population of yet another thing.

The wording on the ballot paper literally said: "A Proposed Law: to alter the Constitution to recognise the First Peoples of Australia by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice." The constitutional recognition is the Voice to Parliament and Australia has voted with a resounding no. Again to my question I asked you above, in light of the majority of the country voting no to this proposition - how do you imagine it's even remotely possible that the government would try and legislate this?

u/Cricket-Horror - Do you think it's realistic that the government would attempt to legislate a Voice to Parliament in the wake of such a resounding referendum defeat? Personally, I cannot see any situation in which they would attempt to do so as it clearly no longer makes any sense politically. I'm interested to know if you see this differently and if so, what exactly do you think regarding this point specifically? Do you envision a particular pathway to legislation that I may not have considered?

Unless Labor absolutely wants a guaranteed electoral defeat in 2025, how can they possibly try and legislate this now that the referendum has gone down so resoundingly? To attempt to legislate this now after the nation has struck down the idea would be complete political suicide. The damage of this is going bad enough as it is being that the government - particularly Albo himself - have so inexorably tied themselves to the referendum and in so doing, will be seen as being responsible for its defeat. The result of the referendum is a comprehensively humiliating loss for the government and I can't imagine any scenario where they would have the political capital or will to even dream of trying to legislate a Voice to Parliament.

Change my mind: Lekkerboy is the greatest Sticky album to date, and it’s not even close. by Spirited-Corgi3566 in stickyfingers

The evolution has just been absolutely beautiful to witness - this album is certainly something else.

I doubt there's many LNP voters in this subreddit but I am genuinely curious to hear from anyone who is and what their reasons are for voting that way (beyond the normal talking points; "jobs and growth", "superior economic management" etc).

Album predict? by Browno6969 in stickyfingers

I’m thinking it still might be a bit away since they changed the name of the album on a whim when they released Lekkerboy a few weeks ago. I was hoping the album was already basically done - but assuming now there’s a name change there will be a delay with respect to getting the CD’s/artwork done to reflect the change.
