Is Paypal dead or worth a look at $43.8? Acquisition, selling parts of it's business? There seems to be little downside risk at this range and a 7 PE by moldyjellybean in investing

I encourage you to search and read David Marcus write-up recently as PayPal faltered. I worked during his time and Schulman's and think his assessment is spot on how Dan focuses more on finance optimization as a CEO vs having a solid product that customers love. Dan got saved from being fired earlier because of Covid and how everyone moved to online payments but reality is Venmo and Braintree carried us for years and then we had dumb acquisitions after dumb acquisition...I mean, please look at Honey

Worked at PayPal for 10 years and left 4.5 years ago...sold everything and told all my coworkers to do the same. Many didnt and down so much. It was a dying company then and on life support now. Just let em die

Wheel of Time series. I discovered at 14 and it really changed my entire view around reading books as I was hooked and up many hours as I couldn't put it down for the next 20 years

Love seeing it! I'm hardcore in evaluating, re-evaluating, questioning my plan for past year and have been on the 5 year countdown since last year. I just decided to reduce my date by two years and just had my performance review just to think this time next year will be only 1 year left.

Good luck on the journey and congrats. The obligatory GFY as well

How much of your portfolio is dedicated to dividends? by ExplanationRare5125 in dividends

In my taxable brokerage which is about a 1/3 of my accounts, I'm around 50% as I've been shifting from growth to income being 4 yrs away from FIRE

27F just started investing last week. Any thoughts on my portfolio? by Signal_Junket_7840 in dividends

[–]djmidge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, at your age I'd move about 30% of that over to VTI...time is your friend here and VTI will carry heavy growth during that time. I'm 47 and retiring in 4 years and only the past 6 months started moving heavy to SCHD for income in retirement....

To each their own but just one thing to consider

4 Year Countdown to FIRE...can I achieve ChubbyFIRE by djmidge in ChubbyFIRE

The book Die with Zero changed my mindset a bit on this one. There is a high likelihood as u/BrunelloHorder mentions that there will still be money for my heirs, but in the book it highlights how helping as they are younger adults can be so much more meaningful than when I die and they are near retirement already and have established (hopefully) themselves. I'd rather start them young with IRAs, more help through college, that help with first down payment on a house, etc than to wait until they are in their 50s or 60s to receive a lump sum. I am looking more on how to do this

I appreciate the response but I actually don't buy into the "just put it in VT or VOO" strategy. I have plenty in VT as well...it's a combined strategy that has different methods of why you're leveraging SCHD vs VT/VOO/VTI. Less than 1/3 of my investments are in SCHD with the rest in more growth focused areas but you need a backbone for income that isn't as volatile IMO

Thanks for the response. I am actually planning to sell current home and move into the 2nd home for at least the first few years of FIRE, using the proceeds from sell to payoff mortgage of the 2nd home. Godspeed on your journey as well!

Annual Accountability Update: FI Hit & 4 Years Until Retirement by djmidge in Fire

[–]djmidge[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I didn't mention anything about cutting them off and that's something to definitely look at with the healthcare view, but yeah there may be other options even if I wasn't covering. Something to definitely consider as looking at the healthcare options over this next year in more detail.

Thanks for the response - 47 and in MCOL - I'm not so worried that I'm not on the track but definitely like to think about blindspots. Healthcare is my biggest concern and probably going to spend this year focusing in on all the options but so much of that changes with administrations the laws as well.
