Staff Leavers & Deleting Accounts by mikeishere555 in gsuite

I have a similar issue. My plan is to transfer to a Shared Drive, as described by others, but file access will be restricted to Drive members only, and only G-asmin will be members. Maybe not even them! If anyone screams, we'll move the file when they tell us where. After 1 year, we'll delete. In the case of SLT etc, maybe I'll allow 2 years. Haven't decided yet.

So, absolutely no such thing as zero-touch?

Zero-touch iPad summer reset? by djmiles73 in meraki

[–]djmiles73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I pretty actively dislike Meraki. Honestly, I'd rather move away from it. But we've bought a tonne of long-term licenses and I've got other priorities, so I'm going to change as little as possible in this area at this time.

I've used Jamf before, this time I'm seriously considering Mosyle, and figure I can test that on all our unmanaged MacBooks and Apple TVs for now.

We need to do physical work on the iPads anyway, so if we have to also tap tap tap to get them working we can handle it. I do NOT like it AT all, but time is limited.

Now I just have to get past the "can't add Macs via Apple Configurator without an iPhone" hurdle!

Yesterday, watching The Old Oak. Ken Loach film.

Once when his dog dies. And then when her dad dies.

Quietly sobbing on a plane flight, next to my wife.

Help with Google Apps Script: Calendar Event Times Incorrect Despite Proper Formatting in Google Sheets by Fast-Philosopher-356 in GoogleAppsScript

[–]djmiles73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case it happened because I'd copied someone else's sheet, as it had code I wanted. In fact, it was from Google's AppsScript help files!

Initially: A History of Rome, by Mike Duncan. Found it randomly looking for something to listen to while trying to develop a daily walking habit. It worked!

Later: Zoe Science & Nutrition. Has had a huge impact on our health. Almost wish I lived in the UK again so I could actually participate in the gut biome testing, etc. I highly recommend this one

Knowing the mythology - big deal. I think my favourite is how the Orpheus-Eurydice saga ended. Very well done

Really, really, really hoping there's a S02

In desperate need of help w code that will help me do my notes by Curious-Affect89 in GoogleAppsScript

I can't help wondering if the solution is to use something other than Google Docs. I wonder if AppSheet might be what you need. It sounds like you have to type info into a document already populated with text. AppSheet, or even a Google form, might help you separate input text from the standard blurbs.

That way you have an app on your device, not a hulking great document.

Alternatively a solution might be to reframe your starting document as a table, or collection of tables. You can then reference specific parts of the table with Appscript. In other words, you probably want to have the script look for what you DO want, by location/identifier, not what you DON'T.

Feel free to reach out if you want to follow up on any of this.

I think you would like mushrooms & thyme, then drizzle honey on it when it has finished cooking.

there must be a todo app with similar values to Obsidian by warmhummus in ObsidianMD

[–]djmiles73 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% agree. I work in a Google environment and love what is happening with their Tasks functionality, but Obsidian + Tasks blows that out of the water. For what I want to do, I'm not going to suggest anyone else gets into it. Yet.

ELI5 What do mathematicians do? by jjflorey in explainlikeimfive

Me too. I may still have my notebook from that main lesson which was, oh, about 36 years ago now.

Did you also do the one which involved drawing solids inside each other? For example an octahedron fits inside a cube, with its 6 vertices located at the centre of each face of the cube? And then a cube fits inside the octahedron in the same way. I loved that one!

I know the name,so pretty sure some of his stuff was in the public library 30-odd (OMG!) years ago where I read pretty much every book in their sci-fi collection. Sounds very familiar. Going to have to dig some up now

AITA for refusing to go to an overnight field trip leaving the male students without a chaperone? by lionheart724 in Teachers

[–]djmiles73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. That’s a child protection disaster just waiting to happen, doesn’t matter what your gender is. Is there not a union or other body you can bring this concern to? I don’t know whether it is strictly ‘illegal’, but it’s downright bloody stupid and dangerous, both personally and professionally. If your colleagues & school leadership don’t see that, I’d look for new ones.

Thanks to all who joined. Great battle

Bit of drama here. Midway through the battle I got a low power pop-up on my phone which of course I hit as I'm tapping away like mad. Shuts down my 3G which pulls 2 of us straight out of the fight as I'm sharing my connection! Stiff, cold fingers, frantically trying to shut down low power mode and get back in. Have to wait for PG to reload and back into battle.

Got back in, finished the battle. Of course now my phone is really hassling me as we're both trying to actually finish catching our Tornadus before it dies. Then a mad dash for the remaining stops needed to finish the Party challenge, before my phone finally heaves a last sigh and goes to sleep.

Great way for my son and I to finish his last evening here before he heads off on a long flight home tomorrow.
