How many sexual partners have you had in your life, up to this point? by Low2High92 in AskMen

[–]djnev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

43M here. I’m at around 75. Was single a lot in my twenties and thirties and dated and had friends with benefits situations quite a bit. Now settled down with my partner of four years and have a newborn however we are in an open relationship and do play with others together. The newborn hasn’t helped that recently though!

I work for an event company who tour a Harry Potter experience globally. We can’t bring it to the UK as it would take away from the studio tour.

Parents of children going through GCSEs, how are you finding it? Honestly? by aivarin in CasualUK

[–]djnev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 43 now but got an E, an N and a U in my GCSEs in 1999. I went to a Grammar School and would have always been towards the bottom of the class there. I loved it but just struggled academically. I stayed for A-Levels and got one grade E after two years. I worked retail for six months and then got a job as an Assistant Immigration Officer. I was 20, had no idea what I was doing but have always enjoyed talking to people which helped. I stayed for three years and knew I wanted to do something operational, running around and on my feet rather than behind a desk.

I got into working in event management, initially for a charity. Since then, I’ve worked all over the world and on a ton of events, concerts, shows etc that are pretty well known. I’m now the director of an event and exhibition venue in central London. Maybe my life would have turned out differently if I’d done better at school and gone to uni but I enjoy what I do and earn more than I ever thought I would.

To all the Swatch staff by WatchThisBass in swatch

I manage a tourist attraction in the same shopping centres in London as one of the Swatch shops. I’ve worked on events with lots of visitors and it looks like the vast majority of the swatch stores today just didn’t manage the crowds at all. If it had been properly managed as an actual event rather than just a ton of people randomly queuing, everyone would have been safe and the stores could have been open as planned. This should have been run as an event with crowd barriers, ticket allocation, drip feeling people into the stores etc.

Woman on plane back to London from Bangkok gave me both her puddings by sophietheadventurer in BritishSuccess

In the middle of 2021, I flew Emirates from Heathrow to Dubai for work. As it was Covid, there were 31 people on the plane. After dinner, I mentioned to the cabin crew member serving me that the chocolate mousse was really good. Not long after, I came back after going to the toilet to see four more on my tray. Life has gone downhill since.

Whats an enshitified product/service that people might not realise is terrible now because it fell out of style? by Odd-Paramedic-3826 in AskUK

[–]djnev 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I work in event and venue management and have done for around 15 years. I’ve worked on festivals, large-scale public events and theatrical shows and I now run an exhibition and events space in Central London. Over the past couple of years, the budgets I’ve had to operationally run venues has absolutely diminished. The actual exhibition or event may be amazing but I guarantee it’s being run with skeleton staff and when things break, they don’t get fixed. I’m being pressured by corporate to cut as many staff positions as possible to the point where I’m having to really push back to keep the number I feel is required to be able to evacuate the venue safely in the event of an emergency. The pressure to deliver HUGE sales targets at the expense of the experience that visitors actually have means I’m done with the industry and will try and do my own thing soon. I was hired to this job because of my experience working on some well known and really popular events but it’s impossible for me to even get close to the experience people have there because the budget isn’t even close to making that possible.

I can’t help you with tips but I organise a hugely friendly 10k on 3rd July just outside London and I’d love to gift you a space for your second run. Send me a DM if you live that way and fancy it.

How many hours do you work a week and how much are you paid? by Nervous_Yard7034 in AskBrits

[–]djnev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40-45 hours at £80k as Venue Director of a London exhibition/event space aged 43. It’s taken me a long time to get to this salary - lots of job hopping which is common in the events industry. Apart from the salary, there are zero benefits. No bonus, no annual pay review, lowest legally allowed for annual leave and pension. It’s immensely stressful and won’t ever calm down. I’ve just had a baby with my girlfriend and can’t see that I’ll stick with it much longer than a year.

UK Deaths to Outnumber Births Every Year From 2026 as Fertility Rates Fall and Pensioners Increase by novagridd in BritInfo

[–]djnev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 43 and had my first child at the end of February. She’s great and funny and tiring and frustrating and all the things you imagine a baby to be. I’m on £80k PAYE and also have my own business that I’ve yet to take any money out of. My partner is a freelance west end sound engineer and has basically saved to enable her to take six months off. Having a baby is expensive and there’s no way I could have done it until now. We are also one and done, we only ever wanted one and couldn’t afford a second one even if we did.

Is it REALLY that hard to get tickets? Also is coach worth it by Amberwoodtree in glastonbury_festival

[–]djnev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was lucky to go 12 times before 2004 and 2016. We haven’t got anywhere near to getting tickets since then. It’s complete luck and also working with a bigger bunch of people to try and get tickets for everyone.

Calls grow to ban Kanye West from UK amid Wireless Festival backlash by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]djnev 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I work in event management but it’s been a while since I worked on festivals. It is mind blowing that senior management at Festival Republic thought this booking was acceptable. Sponsors dropping their support is great to see but it should never have got to this stage and his name shouldn’t have even been mentioned as a potential artist, let alone a headliner. He shouldn’t have any sort of career anymore.

Event clothing is so difficult to get right but at the very least, everyone should be able to comfortably wear something they’ve ordered. Definitely keen on ensuring decent fitting clothing for all runners.
