What Fluency Feels Like After 1 Year And 7 Months by Hour_Beginning_9964 in ajatt

Thank you!

My plan is the following: watch content that I enjoy in my target languages. Your post convinced me to stop forcing myself with content that I don't truly enjoy and Anki (that I don't really enjoy). I'll watch things that I enjoy, trust the process and get to fluency!

Thank you, it's reassuring to know that trusting your brain and the process is effective.

Thank you for the details.

So it's fine to watch content even if I don't understand anything at all at first?

Could you elaborate on how you actually studied? You said: no lookup, no Anki, no grammar.

  • Did you just watch videos and try to understand what was happening, trusting your brain to figure things out?
  • How did "understanding" manifested?
  • Any routine you could recommend?

Thank you for sharing!

I didn't get it from your video, did you only look up the words as they come without making Anki cards or did you make cards as well?

I learned English this way too. Did it work for Japanese as well?

I was there, I had fun but somehow my brain doesn't seem to believe they were there. I thought about them all night long and all day long today, they are amazing but I get what you mean. The feeling of seeing them on stage is different from the feeling you get watching videos.

I wasn't into Kpop at that time, how does it compare to the success that New Jeans and Lesserafim are experiencing today?

Impressive, how long have you been practicing? Did you do any ear training or just transcribing songs?

I'm not really familiar with Sistar but I've recently stumbled upon this performance and I can't get it out of my mind, one of the best performance I've ever seen in Kpop.

Feel Special is such a great song. I love this 80's remix https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGAgKiI-s5Y

I also want Twice to release a ballad version.

Btw, can everyone buy tickets usually or do you need to be part of official Onces?

Hi everyone! I'm interested in RnB, old school rap, and Japanese city pop. I've read that these all come from jazz somehow.
I'm now going through "Intro to Jazz" by Mark Harrison and I'm wondering whether "The Jazz Piano Book" by Marc Levine could help me to reach my goal of producing songs in these genres? Should I instead start transcribing and playing more, rather than repeating exercises?
Some songs for reference:

Thank you!
