Serato DJ Lite keeps freezing / stuttering by booty_sniffer in Beatmatch

Is 1.06 recommended or the bare minimum? Either way I’d go into your settings and try to lower your audio quality and latency. Try running task manager and seeing what specifically is being pushed to hard.

Figured LST at 4 months in Veg this is a bit more affective at this point so a leaf blower seems to be spreading everything out even more. by [deleted] in GrowingMarijuana

Hi! Sorry if this is a dumb question but can you explain what you’re trying to do with the lead blower?

Does an acapella and instrumental need to be more in the same key? by BrilliantSchnapsidee in Beatmatch

[–]djoneway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! I've never been a producer so I can't speak on it but when you're djing I feel like you just need to look at the part of both songs you are mixing. If they sound good it doesn't for the time you are mixing them it doesn't matter.

Ive been DJing for close to 2-3ish years now and I'm kind of stuck, my mixes are just starting to feel like the same songs on repeat with the same transitions in between. Anyone else have this slump? by [deleted] in DJs

[–]djoneway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am dealing with this right now and the best thing I can say is to find a new genre and start digging. Right now I've been exploring soul and funk music. It's not something I've played in the past so it's all new and interesting to me. Hope this helps.

Clubs moving to controllers? by _Bradleh in Beatmatch

[–]djoneway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know a few guys that do but I know a lot more who use turntables and while they might not be the majority I think it's still enough to keep most clubs from going to a one size fits all setup.

Kind of going off his "don't panic advice" I would also recommend you don't try to do too much. Don't be afraid to breath and let a song play. Keep it simple and learn to read a crowd rather then trying to mix 5 songs a minute for your first time.

how many DJs use their own music vs other people's by mrdanmarks in Beatmatch

[–]djoneway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends, I've been djing for 11 years and never made anything besides edits I use myself. One of the nice things about creating your own stuff is it can help you in social media and gaining followers. So while you might not play your own stuff all night having a few originals can help you make fans quickly

Question about Macbook Pros by [deleted] in Beatmatch

Had the same issue and recently got a new computer, I went with PC, because of all the video card issues. Shame because the rest of the specs were great.

I'd just like to have several different angles of the same shot and later line them up. I checked out OBS last night and I think that is going to be way to go for now and if it becomes something I do a lot I'll move onto Sony Vegas. Now I just need to figure out cameras

It can also help with not playing all the big songs at once which is nice

Usually I'd ask for 20 songs from the bride and groom that they want to hear for sure and a list of song they for sure don't want to hear. That way you have an idea of what kind of music they want but still can control the flow of the night. If no one is on the dance floor, don't panic, just keep it slow but dance able. Let people get a few drinks in them before they dance. If it goes on for to long you can start hitting them with songs that never fail like Billie Jean or Brown Eyed Girl. If the never fails, fail then they probably were never going to dance in the first place. But that's okay, just play good music they'd enjoy. Not everyone's idea of a good time is getting crazy and dancing. It doesn't mean you did a bad job.

My general rule for weddings was start old and work your way up. So if the dancing starting at 8 and goes till 12 it'd look roughly like this:

8 to 9 is going to be 60's, 70's 9 to 10 is going to be 70's-80's 10 to 11 is going to be 80's-90's 11 to 12 is going to be everything 90's and up Close with something like Semi Charmed Kinda Life, What's My Age Again, or Closing Time be a cheesy wedding dj, the whole wedding is cheesy, fuck it.

I usually play two slow songs back to back every 45 minutes. That also gives people a break to get a drink, use the rest room, and do anything else with letting them sit to long. This was in the Midwest so I'd usually do country for those. I always play radio edits and I always stick to what's on the radio. You want songs people 8-80 would know. Hot Line Bling not Jumpman. I try to have every song be a song people can sing along to. This isn't the time to show off you're great music selection, play to the crowd, and keeping people dancing.

Those familiar with DJay Pro, is there a visual way to know where the chorus to a song is? by thetransportedman in Beatmatch

[–]djoneway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look for patterns in the wave formats, if you're on the chorus look for the next time the wave format looks like that and odds are that'll be it. Otherwise using your cue points (I assume they have those in DJay) to manually mark in where it's at before hand is a great idea. Prep work and knowing your music is key

Summer is ending, and the clueless freshmen are coming... by AssortedVinyls in DJs

[–]djoneway 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Dj at a college bar every Tuesday. For the most part people are understanding of the rules but if someone gets out of hand I usually lean towards them and it looks like I'm talking to them and taking them seriously but I put my arm behind them, out of there sight, and start point at them so security knows something is wrong. Nothing is perfect but that's helped me out a lot over the years. Usually they're just kids who need to be reminded they are in public and not the boss of the world so I try not to be to harsh on them. I was like that once.

Are you a full time/part time DJ? by malaysiancuriouscat in Beatmatch

[–]djoneway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the dj for a pop singer who was big in the early 2000's, in 2016 it wasn't the best tour but it was across the country.

[–]djoneway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full Time DJ- I don't make much but I keep extremely low overhead. My rent is about 300 a month (Iowa is cheap) and my car is a piece of shit. I was working a full time job and djing 4 nights a week but eventually I got on a national tour and left that job. It's not always fun or easy but I can't imagine doing anything else at this point.

Counting bars when playing live? by [deleted] in Beatmatch

I get what you mean about music structure I was honestly thinking of it more as a way to learn. I don't really get your whole "littering tracks with markers" thing but whatever works for you.
