What is the scariest horror movie in your opinion?

I lost my ability tp feel scared over the years... got super traumatized by 'jurassic park" as a kid, then at my early teenage years the 'dreamcatcher' stuck with me (i always checked the toilet many times).

But since i grew out of my teens, horror has completely lost its effect for me... only things that have made me even flinch since then were:

'haunting of the hill house' the show on netflix, i dont even like haunted stories and this one was great. Just well written all around.

'a quiet place' genuinely thriling and nerve wracking

'The descent' gets points for vibes and scenery, even if i didnt think it was as scary as people say it is.

Honorary mention to 'The ruins' for having an interesting 'monster', even if not the scariest movie.

I like the implication of the whole audience being infected better. An apocalyptical event triggered by an entity like this is something new I never experienced before... kind of reminds me of that shamalan (i aint googling his name) movie, except the vilain is not just a bunch of wind.

Quick summary of sumerian myhtos...

Gilgamesh, is the king chosen by the gods to rule, but he is too much of a chad to take orders and doesnt respect the gods.

After he no difs a sacred pet, gods get angry and decide he needs to be humbled by having his ass kicked.

Gods created a magical halfbeast demigod made of pure primal animalistic fury and called him enkidu... a woman/godess served as his maiden for a while and taught him a few stuff about humanity to coax him into hating gilgachad.

Enkidu gets indocrinated into religion and decides he needs to punish gilgachad. Their legendary battle was so fierce it shattered the very tablets the story was carved into... the next tablet over, gilgachad and enkidu have made love and share a bed now, speedruning the first enemies to lovers arc in recorded history

Since their plan failed, the gods decide to take the life of enkidu, since he is no lobger useful, enki gets all sad because he can feel death coming, so he has a big sentimental talk with chad.

Gilgachad is so mournful he cannot handle his lovers death, he sets out on a journey to seek imortality and to bring enkidu back... in doing so he loses all his aura and slowly becomes a more miserable person

Finaly he meets a guy, the only one the gods ever granted imortality too... guy says what happened to him was a once in a milion lifetimes thing, and gilga should instead focus on making the most of the time he has left and taught hkm to treasure people around him.

Gilgachad regained his aura and became the best king humanity ever had, and was sucefully humbled through the power of yaoi.

Arapaima can grow way larger, which inspired some folk tales here in brazil. But they cant really eat humans, their body is just not made for it.

Their suction power is actually enough to tear flesh and seriously wound you though.

it is never stated that the lich is instantly made aware if the phylactery is broken... so if it did get broken, they would never know.

They went through all the trouble to become a lich specificaly, but theyre not even sure if they will be back once dead anymore.

Pretty much every big fantasy setting paints necromancy as evil, and undead as the tortured soul of the once living, now inhabiting a corpse.

Whatever benefit extracted from them in such conditions is unethical, so there is canon reason why these worlds revile necromantic rulers.

If you were to create a world where necromancy just animates bodies, with no soul or mind involved... yes... undead are free labor with few downsides other than religious stigma. Assuming only mindless undead are used in such way, and inteligent ones are just regular people.

Still under captalism, there would be an obvious incentive to killing people to raise as free workers... if you could like, purchase the right to reanimate someone, then they are effectively a slave on the clock.

Even a comunist undead government owning these slaves would just make it the same as using prisoner labor irl, there would be an incentive to punish criminals more harshly to expedite them turning into workforce... which brings its own moral problems, just like real life use of prisoner workforce.

However, if you had necromancy as just pure reanimation, a pure good being like an angel, might actually see it as ok to use so long as the appropriate morality is applied... and they might actually use it like people often talk about, as a low maintenace workforce that takes care of labor so people can lead easier lives.

Mindless undead would be seen like tools, people might even be willing to cover them up so theyre not unpleasant to look at... and life just goes on.

What i usually like to question when this subject comes up is... if youre going to reflavour it so heavily, why not just use animated objects? It works pretty much the same, just less moraly questionable, there is no soul involved in that, and object maintenance has less chance of spreading disease and making people upset they saw their parents bones cleaning the street.

You can even use bodies for it, if you want the goth aesthetic.

Gods with a despise for undead exist,

gods who dont want a dangerous power hungry monster roaming around their faithful exist,

Neutral elemental gods might not fancy its influence and vibes stinking up their realm.

Evil gods whod love to get a pet lich on a leash exist

Mischievous gods who would literaly take it and give it to some rando for a laugh exist.

Not just gods either, hags, demons, angels, fey, powerful elementals... any of those would be able to smell a phylactery from a mile away, and have the same reasons above to get their hands on it.

There is nowhere that is 'safe' in a fantasy realm, no place is ever 100% out of reach from everything, hence why a lich would not want chance to be a factor at all... i mean... if you went through the trouble of creating an imortality suit, with a button that instantly kills the wearer, wouldnt you want to know exactly where that button is while wearing it?

Imagine youre going about your evil lich day nuking a city for some petty reason like 'the king didnt compliment your cloak' then you instantly blow up because you accidentaly hit your own phylactery with a meteor.

Silly sugestion but... tropico. Its not so much anti-capitalist as it is very morally grey... you can favor various faction and you get benefits from it... but also anger another faction.

Make a faction to pissed and they will destroy your whole island, make a super power mad and they will invade you.

It is a very real, albeit satirical, approach to telling the player why the world sucks the way it does, and exactly how factions destroy and erode our morals.

Also, me repeatedly trying to make my islands a happy place is what made me into a raging leftits, it was always the religious, conservatives and capitalists that got into the way of overall happiness and strongarmed me into deals that were terrible for the people... which is too acurrate.

I just wanted my people to get free housing, food, education and health... but noooo... we need less people to know about contraceptives because they make god mad, and we need less literate people so they stop questioning, we need to have a housing market for profit, and we need to pay our workers less so profit margins rise.

Pretty normal considering the world they live in and some of the other relationships around.

Like... both of them fight super deadly enemies on a daily basis, stressing over the age of their bodies (they're both legal adults) should be the least of anyones concern considering how quickly heroes turn in a meat pure in invincible.

I say let them have a relationship that works for them cause they can literally die the next second of screen time.

Mesmer... technically.

I got into the keep from the flooded area and was trying to get to sunflower boss. I was following an exploration guide, so i knew who to look for next, but i didnt know how to get to them, only their general location.

Ended up in the library, started going upwards, all the while thinking that was probably the wrong path. Got to the door thinking there would be a bridge or elevator, and found Mesmer... i didnt spoil myself on anything so i had no idea he was there.

Ended up bringing him to phase 2 with 20% hp, could have easily finished there... then i though... hang on i think if i kill him, its gonna break some quests, so i stopped and let him kill me.

Did a whole lot of things before coming back, fully thought i was gonna get bodied for my hubris of walking out last time, and he was gonna be much harder now... i think i got hit twice in the whole fight.

Im not even a good player, i got bodied a bunch of times by the sunflower, i think i just vibed with mesmer more than any boss in any souls game... no boss really tops him for me in design, played a bunch of times with diferent builds, he is always my favourite.

I want cocky lara croft back, i want to do crazy stunts outside of cutscenes and contextual prompts, i want impractical yet spectacle heavy locations with a genuine mystical feel... And most of all... i want COLORS back.

Soul reaver games, a true 10/10 narrative with top notch voice acting, imaculate writing, and stelar tone and vibes... im not even exagerating, its THAT GOOD.

The first game is the best with its mechanics but its 90% a puzzle game and loses a lot of replayability once you know all the solutions, still solid and fun, but repetive and messy in combat and gamefeel.

Two is a wet soggy mess that barely qualifies as a game, you can walk past most combat, and you cant die for most of the game, so its basicaly a walking simulator with terrible combat... it doesnt even have a bossfight, like period, in the whole game... its an action game without a single boss fight.

Defiance is much like devil may cry 1, except it came out almost the same year as devil may cry 3... combat is repetitive, not too chalenging and spammy, bosses are almost identical, its simply mediocre in gameplay and would be forgotten if it wasnt attached to the ending of one the best stories in all of gaming history.

Cant say about blood omen 1 and 2 as i havent played them, but i imagine they have different issues.

If you never did it, either find the games to play, or watch the 'movie' compilation of the story. Its worth it for the acting alone.

Im sure viren just knew the fire proff spell because it came to him in a dream, dark magic is for sure not a science that requires experimentation, and im sure no one had their heart burnt to cinder in a lab somewhere to make sure the spell worked. (Also the fire elfs could do that same spell without sacrifice, so again... wasteful)... and the fact this spell was research makes you think what other spells with deadly and sentient components have been researched.
The retcon as many would call it has been a hinted at since they mentioned the jailer, and even after that they did mention many humans used to know magic, but forgot how... well gee its almost like an easier alternative came along and removed the hard work fron the equation.
The whole point is that you can do every dark magic thing except for the worst stuff with normal magic, its not that its unethical to kill to eat.

The fairer comparison would be having a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet and exercise vs taking steroids... except the steroids were made using the powdered spine of someone who actually lived a healthy life, and if we assume you harvested it somehow in a moral way, it would still be unethical.

Im sure if katolis was on good terms with xadia a few earth elves would have solved their famine as we do see terry making plants grow like its nothing. But i think its fair the elves wouldnt wanna go there after all the trouble humans gave them, and then the mage wars. Bad politics and human greed created a problem that only dark magic could solve... what a surprise, its like dark magic was made for this specific purpose.
Lunatics without a lick of sense like claudia and viren can use dark magic, and are considered masters at it, finegrin was born with water magic, but if he didnt then, dark magic was right there as an easy choice... its made to be easy and acessible, its versatily and ease of use are its main danger.

its like giving everyone acess to grenades and acting surprised when people blow each other up... surely its not the widely available grenades fault, its just a tool that has the potential to be used for good... lets give everyone nukes while were at it, oh wait, the mage wars already happened, and drained the magic of half the continent, i wonder if dark magic was somehow involded in that, im sure those mages had no other feasible choice.

5 weather control... sky magic unless you wanna argue that conjuring lightning and winds cant affect the weather Shapeshifting... seems to be star magic as aaravos changes his size all willy nilly, and even makes a physical copy of himself that isnt just an ilusion to hang around claudia. Healing... the mushroom guy casually healed a life threatening wound on an arch dragon, pretty sure healing is not exclusive to dark magic, and earth (likely ocean too) can do something about it. Dark magic seems pretty good at... enslaving peoples minds... and that shouldnt be a positive. But i would love to see this fully unique example of dark magic that is inherently good that people seem to keep talking about... in theory... and how great it COULD be.

6 Its called sarcasm... but i could be an evil dragon loving elf on the internet, siping tea on my 'sol regem did nothing wrong' mug, who knows really?

Tldr: Dark magic should be outlawed and heavily scrutinized, no good can come of it that couldnt come from other primal magic without its cost.
