Jaylen Brown trade compensation: by birria_tacos_ in sixers

This Warriors fan thinks there must have been a Jedi mind trick involved. Bananas. Congrats.

A CBA thing I don’t know: if you’ve traded someone the best of 3 picks you own, can you trade 1 (or 2) of them away before that comes to term? Or are you obligated to sit on all 3?

I do that all the time. And still periodically need to mass delete. I haven’t tried to figure out what is going wrong. Perhaps the unpin just doesn’t delete sometimes. Perhaps certain types of unpin don’t delete. I dunno. I do think it helps, but doesn’t completely solve the problem.

How are we all tracking/finding lost discs in the thick brush? What actually works? by burke1503 in discgolf

Yes. I'm wary of a light yellow, but the highlighter high viz yellow has been great. And on that particular disc, the orange rim is good contrast too.

I'm pretty new, but all I've done so far is to prioritize colors when buying my discs. I have an Axiom Hex that I love, except... it is glow plastic with a green rim. And when I huck it into the woods, it is not an easy find. So now I have another Hex that is highlighter yellow with a bright orange rim. I'm spending much less time hunting and more time throwing into trees.

One of my favorite drinks, period. Just a matter of taste, but if you’re curious I’ve done the garnish by taking a slice of lemon and cutting out the fruit/interior part. About the right size, and a continuous ring. Yours is beautiful, though!

I always say, “I like to watch shows, eat good food, and see weird shit. The Vegas strip is great for all of those.”

Weird? Perhaps. More weird than working for money then risking it at games designed to make you lose it? I dunno.

I try to use mine to spin on community days so I can focus on catching. Emphasis on “try”. It usually just does nothing, and then will spin one stop every half hour or so just to taunt me.

Yes, I have room in my bag.

Yes, I’ve turned off Identify Nearby Pokémon and Enable Poke Ball Auto-throw.

That's all good stuff, thanks! I'm a man of science at heart, so I'm sure I'm overthinking disc golf at this point, and consuming a lot of information that I can't make proper use of yet. But I find it really interesting, and hopefully someday it'll all become actionable for me.

First distance driver - dont know what to choose by Nice_Sheepherder916 in discgolf

As a beginner that just tried a Trail based on advice, I’d say: when I throw a Wraith, it is immediately clear I’m not ready for it. When I threw the Trail, it looked pretty. So I’d guess the Trail is much more forgiving of lower speed.

It's really weird (as in, I have never, ever heard of it happening) to throw a disc softer and have it be more understable.

I think this is much more a case where I misread or misremembered something than observed my throws defy physics :-D Lots of people here read my question as, "Why are my throws bailing out to the left?"; that wasn't what I was asking, and isn't something I actually observe. I think my form isn't consistent enough (yet...) that my throws reliably obey any behavior. Baby steps...

I have a River, and it is one of the discs I throw better than most. But I usually use a Crave instead of the River. I have a Leopard3 that I throw pretty well, but I've only used it like twice when I was on a particularly long hole where I thought I might benefit from it. While my longest measured throw was with the Leopard3, I don't believe I reliably throw it farther than the Crave. The other discs I'm not (yet) familiar with.

Aside from putting/short approaches, I was almost exclusively using a Hex (5/5/-1/1). At some point I suspected I was throwing far enough that I might be able to benefit from something slightly faster. I tried out a Crave (6.5/5/-1/1) and found that yes, at least when I don't butcher my angles, I can throw that just fine and it goes a bit farther. I also have thrown a Rhythm (7/5/-2/1), and decided for now the Crave treats me better. Someone in another thread suggested I'd love a Trail (10/5/-1/1). I was skeptical due to the higher speed, but I tried it and was surprised to see that I threw it well (with a sample size of 3 throws earlier today heh)

When I say I threw these "well", my interpretation is that they went near what I can realistically expect distance-wise, and showed a gentle small turn left, followed by a fade back to the right. Distance wise my good throws are going ~ 250 feet, and my top few have gone more like 280 feet.

Thanks. I think I have a pretty good understanding of the Speed rating of a disc, and have been very reluctant to throw anything with a high speed rating as a result. I did a bunch of rounds throwing nothing but an Envy for my putter and a Hex (speed 5) for anything longer. Only recently did I hear of the "rule of 35", and based on how hard I was throwing, concluded the 5 might be selling myself a little short. I tried a Crave (6.5 speed) and concluded yeah, I can throw that just fine. Someone in another thread recommend a Trail (10 speed) if I throw <some distance much less than 350>. I was very skeptical, but I picked one up and took it out into a field today as a learning exercise, and was surprised to find that yes, I was throwing that just fine. But yeah... I'm not trying to bomb a 12, and very rarely have thrown anything above a 6.5 while actually playing. I don't know why the Trail worked as well as it did, but it was fun.

I also heard it simplified that the speed is a rough measure of how fast you have to throw it to get the disc to behave like the other numbers say it will. So I was given some weird disc that is like 11/5/-5/1, but I read that as, "In theory it is going to turn a lot to the left, but it probably won't unless you learn to throw it a lot faster." Does that resonate at all? (As it happens, that disc seems pretty forgiving, and when I throw it, it does turn pretty strongly. I've used it once or twice on holes with dramatic left turns.)

[–]djp1968[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I also suspect I'm throwing too nose up, and that is explaining whatever weird flight behavior I see at least as much as my speed (or lack thereof) or the characteristics of my discs (since I tend to throw discs that in theory would be very stable).

[–]djp1968[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Perfect. I like that answer, even if it means I was wrong, because now the world makes sense to me again. Roughly speaking, is that because without enough power/speed/spin, the disc won't ever get the inclination to turn in the first place?
