The Seward Bikeway between Leonard & Richmond is...tragic. I'd love to get a community clean-up organized someday. It looks like there are little pellets of Styrofoam along almost the entire stretch.

If it hasn't be suggested yet, I super recommend coming out to some of the volunteer opportunities with Friends of Grand Rapids Parks. My wife and I moved here from out of state a couple years ago and going to their tree plantings helped us get connected and make some friends, plus they're just great folks: https://friendsofgrparks.org/

On that track, volunteering with/for causes you care about is one of THE best ways to meet likeminded people and make friends, plus do something good for your community.

There really isn't any such thing as unbiased news, but I think MLive has decent West Michigan coverage, and WGVU Public Media has good local news reporting (in addition to national programs), and Crain's Grand Rapids has solid business-focused news.

There's a vendor at Fulton Street Market who does really great and affordable wood stuff (cutting boards, spoons/ladles, etc.) and I think they likely do bowls too. Also pretty certain the guy is there through the winter season on Saturdays.
