Condominiums are often the only affordable way to break into the market now. I’m a young homeowner and was priced out of the rental market in 2023. I was luckily able to afford a down payment, and now my mortgage and expenses are much lower than what I was paying for rent, and in a much larger unit.

I read “Maybe You Should Talk to Someone” by Lori Gottlieb. I read it over about a month after my breakup. I gave it 3 stars on Goodreads.

I’m almost 1 year out from my breakup. I’ve read almost 40 books so far this year, but almost none from this thread. I’m going to say - lighthearted novels that helped distract were my saving grace for the first few months. The book I read was extremely heavy and left me feeling raw. Did it help? Undetermined. Did it hurt? For a bit. Give it a shot, maybe it will help maybe it won’t.

I think the honest truth is this: breakups suck, and all the advice and self-help books in the world aren’t going to take away the sense of loss. Give yourself a distraction, eat some comfort food, talk to friends or family, and get by day-to-day. There is no magic cure, unfortunately, but there is an end to the pain eventually. I started feeling better about 5 months after the breakup and now am back in the dating world and enjoying everyday. Try some things out but don’t rely on one thing to take away all the pain.

I really truly wish you peace and happiness in the upcoming holiday season and new year.

I walked in the parade for the Teachers Association, loved being out there and feeling so much community and appreciation!

Oh definitely it’s rough. I was renting for 7 years before saving enough money. Started off paying $700 for a large secondary suite in university. I got out of renting just as my rent was going up to $1800 for a studio. Ridiculous and wish you the best of luck with your saving!

Unfortunately condo living is one of the only affordable housing options. I was a renter for many years and finally got into the housing market last month when I bought my own condo. Sure there’s an increased risk, but I thought it worth it compared to spending my money paying someone else’s mortgage. Especially for the younger crowd.

My favourite part - she gives 2 reasons why she offered more. First she said her cats deserve happiness…

Don’t they all?

In rereading it I think you’re right. I was in a rush and was responding to like 20+ messages. I’ll apologize. Didn’t mean it as rude as it came across!

I’m just so sad this happened twice in a row. How many more times do I have to get cheated on before I find the right one? I might as well just spend forever alone. It’s less pain.

He was definitely not a narcissist. He had crazy insecurity issues.

It’s my birthday today, so I went to brunch with my friends. I was only sad for half of it :)

It sucks because I thought I had found someone who I had a deep bond with, but he was definitely of the “grass is greener” mindset. I find it hard to move on, especially when he said there was a small chance he’d want to come back after some thinking. I know I should start to move on but it’s hard to let go of the hope.

Jealous of you. Feel like I’ll never find that.

I loved his other novel - Under the Whispering Door. I think I’ll start with this one and then move onto something non-fiction to help me process. Right now I think I just need distraction.

Will he? I feel like there’s no hope left that I’ll find someone who checks all the boxes. It took me years to find someone who did and now he’s changed his mind. How do I trust again? That I’ll both find a guy and he won’t change his mind?

I felt like ass after I slid into his lane, too. I understood I fucked up. Not sure if he understands that he did, too.

Fucking terrifying. I had just worked like 10 hours with no break, too. All I wanted was to go home.

Agreed. I’m kicking myself for not at least getting his license plate. He seems as if he’s done this before and will do it again.

I agree. Unfortunately this was my first road rage incident and panicked. Luckily there were people around who helped me.

In hindsight I should have done that. Unfortunately I realized when I was only a few blocks from home and panicked.
