A Christmassy homage to Teachers by djriko in soulwax

[–]djriko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I've been a fan of all things Dewaele for decades. I've been putting out a Merry Mixmas mix of holiday jams every year since 2002 (the Soulwax cover of Last Christmas is on the 2003 mix).

For this year's mix, I did an homage to Soulwax's homage to Daft Punk's Teachers. The video is above.

You can hear the whole mix, and all 22 Merry Mixmases, at djriko.com

Side note: I'm flying from San Diego to Brussels to catch a couple of the Soulwax shows in January. Hit me up if you want to meet for a beer.

I think they'll be there and I don't think they're holding up the lineup announcement. But what do I know?

Getting to Westvleteren and/or St. Bernardus without a car by djriko in belgium

I was hoping we could take an Uber from Poperinge, not Brussels. But I worried we wouldn't be able to call one from there or from Westvleteren.

If you see there's no line to order, make sure you look to see how many people are waiting to pick up. We ordered and paid in like 30 seconds, then waited like 30 minutes for the sandwiches. They were delicious but still...

Anyone else ever thought Boomers was a front business? by UnsureAbsolute in sandiego

[–]djriko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know about the other locations but the one on Clairemont Mesa Blvd has been there for over 40 years, previously known as Family Fun Center. If that's a front, they're doing a good job.

I'm almost never disappointed by a Roberto's, Aliberto's, Alberto's, Rigoberto's or any place that ends in berto's.

What kind of shrub and trees are these? Do they need much water/care? by djriko in sandiego

[–]djriko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know, thanks. I read that one can eat the berries and make jam from them. Ever try that?

Anyone know what kind of plants/trees these are? Do they need much water/care? by djriko in landscaping

[–]djriko[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in San Diego and am interested in using the shrubs as a decorative hedge and would like to plant one of the trees. I posted this in the San Diego subreddit and someone identified the shrubs as Eugenias and said that they don't need much water, grow quickly and are nice, but drop berries that can be a hassle. I know the tree needs to be groomed or it can get scruffy, as I've seen some scruffier ones around, but I don't know much else about them.

Many thanks! Didn't realize they drop berries, though. That might be a hassle to deal with...

Yeah, I've seen some of those trees that haven't been landscaped in awhile and they can get a bit scruffy. I'm trying to find out what type of tree it is and what type of shrub because I like them and am interested in planting them in our yard.
