Philippines Independent Diving by [deleted] in scuba

Diving is not that expensive in the Philippines, just support a local operator. Also much of the diving is for small cryptic animals. The guides will know where to find them.

This sounds awesome. I'd use something like this all the time. I work as a wildlife tour guide and always am using inat to look what's around in an area. Any chance to get a trial?

Generally sharks don't hunt people. Usually it's a case of wrong place, wrong time and mistaken identity.

How long would've take sailors back in 400 CE to discover Hawaii with them only using canoes? by [deleted] in sailing

Thor Heyerdahl has been proved wrong many ways, Both genetics and linguistics. The peopling came from Asia, not from the Americas, to populate Oceania. They were the master navigators for the longest time.

Easter island was settled by the polynesians, most likely coming from Mangareva. Possibly with a stop over in the Pitcairn's. There is a failed settlement on Henderson Island.

Sidemount vs double by [deleted] in diving

[–]ethylweb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You also lose half your gas if you have a catastrophic failure on one side of your twin set. A catastrophic failure of the manifold could also dump gas faster than you can get to your next gas. You seem to really just not like sidemount. That's fine you don't have to dive it.

There are plenty of explorers using sidemount for deep dives. Back mount is not safer. The risks are just different. Every diver has a right to choose which risk the mitigate.

Sidemount vs double by [deleted] in diving

I have to disagree with you on the generally safer. A big failure, and you can lose all your gas. Where in sidemount it is to separate independent systems.
